[How To] PS2 Game From Torrent to DVD using DVD Decrypter
[Update 1/19/2008] To play backed up PS2 games, your PS2 needs to be modded, either by a boot disk such as Swap Magic, or a modchip. Also, there is a similiar tutorial to this one, but it shows you how to use Nero to burn your game. Use the search button to find it, or just look under the “PS2 Mod Tutorials”.
This tutorial is 100% genuine written from The Underground staff, personally from Versatile1. Hehe. I’ve done this many times before, and its time to share my knowledge with you. Use it as a tool to backup your games. How you choose to use this in your daily escapades is not my problem. Here we go:
Basic assumptions:
1) You have Windows OS.
2) You have DVD decrypter installed. Find it here.
3) You know how to use torrents, and have a torrent program. Don’t know how to torrent? Leave a comment to request a tutorial.
4) You have a program that can unzip rar files. I recommend WinRar. Get it at www.rarlabs.com
Step 1. Go to your favorite torrent site, and using your torrent program (I use utorrent) download a PS2 game. If you reside in the United States, make sure you download the NTSC version. If you get a PAL game, it will not work on your TV because it will flicker due to the refresh rate of the TV. NTSC games have 60 Hz refresh rate, but PAL games have 50 Hz refresh rate.
Step 2. Most often than not, the PS2 game you download will comprise of multiple rar files. Select the first rar file, right click and extract it.
Step 3. Once your game is extracted, you should have an .ISO file. Now open up your dvd decrypter program. Go to Mode > Iso > Write. Insert a blank DVD+R or DVD-R. It is recommended that DVD-R is used because of better compatabilty with PS2 laser, but I have DVD+R work fine so it shouldn’t be an issue.
Step 4. Your screen should look like the one below now. Make sure to set the write speed to half the max rated speed of your blank DVD-r or DVD+r. For instance, if your DVD disc max write speed is 16X, put your burner speed setting at 8X.
Step 5. Now the game should be burning to the DVD.
Step 6. After a few minutes (depending on the speed of your DVD burner), DVD decrypter is complete! Now use your favorite PS2 modchip device and it will work on your PS2.
If the game does not work, then there are two things that need to be done.
1) Use a different disc. Maxell DVDs are notorious for not being great DVDs. The PS2 laser is very picky as to what it can and cannot read. Many people suggest in getting Tao Yuden DVD’s but those are sometimes pricey. You can get by with better brands like Verbatim, Sony, and TDK to name a few.
2) The game needs to be rebuilt, but thats another tutorial

so do i have to extract every file and burn it in cd? so dat with require lots of dvd-r? coz i downloaded one game with rar files up tp part 26.

Ok, so you have a game, and you got it through Utorrent. It has 26 rar files right? This is what you do. You select the very first rar file, right click on it, and click extract here or extract to folder, it doesn’t really matter.
When it finishes extracting, you will see a .iso file right? Using DVD decrypter, you can burn it.
In a future tutorial, I will demonstrate this same method but burning with Nero. It all works the same anyway.

A future tutorial is coming that shows how to take a ps2 game from a torrent, and use nero to burn it, but for now dvd decrypter is a good program by itself for burning.

Welcome! Depending on where you download your stuff from, there may be passwords. I suggest you take a look at where you got your download from and ask your fellow peers what your password is.
Now don’t get me wrong, there are RAR password crackers out there, but its just simpler to see the original source and get the password that way.

Hmm, where did you get your burnout 3 from? I have burnout 3, and my copy works fine, saves to memory card fine.
I am led to believe that the burn is successful, and you are using a swap magic? Or are you using a different PS2 mod?

Burnt Burnout 3 twice. Both disks load fine but the game does not recognise the memory card. I have downloaded other games and they work fine.

gday i just finished downloading a snes emulator for ps2 and have extracted the rar. files.when i open the new folder it has an icon for dvd decrypter but it is an mds file and is only 1kb.when i double click it dvd decrypter opens up but say “invalid or unsupported image file format!reason: only single track images are supported”
What does this mean?
also there is another mdf file which is 111mb.when i double click it a window opens up and says “windows cannot open this file.what would you like to do-use the web to find a program,OR,Select the program from a list.

Bazza6969, open up DVD decrypter. Go to mode, write mode. Go to this folder with the extracted snes items, select your mds file, and dvd decrypter should be able to burn the remaining items from there.

What game do you have? Since you don’t have the iso file, I would just burn the files as a data dvd using nero or similiar dvd burning program.

Hey, it is on my to-do list. Maybe I’ll get it up tonight, tomorrow at the latest. It is pretty easy.
The short version of it is use nero to read the image file, and burn it to dvd. Make sure to burn at half the max speed of the disc, and you are solid.
how to determine your CD/DVD writer Speed?
The easiest way is to look at your model number for your disc drive, and it will tell you.
Or if you had a blank DVD, put it in the drive, and them using either Nero speed tool it will tell you. If you try to burn something in Nero or DVD decrypter, it will tell you the max writing speed for that disc.
so since it came out in 3 separate .rar files and it extracted to 3 different .iso files, in the decrypter, you open all three at once so it will put it on one dvd? and what if i have a double layer dvd?

Swap magic does not read double layer DVDs, best to go with single layer.
If you have HDA-advance or HD loader, then yes, you can use double layer dvds.

Yes, if you even want to play these games, you need a modchip. I have the Slim silver ps2 with a flip top, is that what you have?
It is possible to play backed up games on it, but you will need Swap Magic. Swap magic is a boot disc that you let the PS2 load, and then afterwards you can play your backed up games.

hmmm i tryed to follow this tutorial but i’m having one problem…… Once i finished downloading the torrent on Bitlord i opened the folder and i got two files one said DVDimage.ISO and the other said DVDimage.MDS. the ISO file is a RAR file so when i open that it seems like there are game files or something.. the files are System.CNF,ZDummy.ZZZ, SLPS_251.23,and there are three folders: Modules, MB, and ENVVAR. Hmm, I never played a Japan torrent, but lets think about it.
USA is NTSC, Japan is most likely PAL, so my initial answer isno.
However, you could use a PAL to NTSC converter, although I cannot comment how well the end result will turn out for you.

i hav a question… i downloaded Need For Speed: Prostreet with Bittorrent and in the folder there are 67 items but none of them are Winrar files wat do i do here? i tried jus burning it regularly with NTI CD & DVD Maker 7 which came with my computer but that didnt work either it jus went to the browser page on my ps2 and it shows my memory cards and a disk and the disk name is Playstation Disk(or DVD i dont remember which) but when i select it it still doesnt work… plz help
i also downloaded Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and followed all the instrustions, it worked up until the part where the screen says PlayStation 2 then when the game loaded the screen kept flickering lik keeps jumping/moving or wateva i cant describe it but it wont stay still, y is that?
The dragonball game, it is quite possible that it is a 50 HZ PAL game, not NTSC.
Check your game, that is why it is flickering.
In regards to your first question, can you get me a screenshot of these 67 items?

o pressed that but nothing happens… =/ but 62 of the items are named dgr-nfspsp.001 and so on 002, 003 etc. with one of them called dgr-nfspspsfv and there are 2 txt files saying the website it was from, 2 files of system information and a url link…. thats all….

Press CTRL + Print screen. Open up paint and paste it there. Save it and upload to imageshack and give me the link.
Or go to the forum and upload it there.
PS1 games you have to use PSX breaker. Not swap magic.

The nfo file you have in the folder. Open it up in notepad and see if there are any instructions there.

Please check the file that starts with DRG, and it has an “I” icon in the monitor. Open up that in notepad.

This is my advice to you. Go to your favorite rental store, rent the game, and then rip it.
If there is a family video around you, the better since its much cheaper there than any other video rental store that I know of.

ok….when ive downloaded games, none of them seem to be iso files. there’s a couple of games that have bin and cue files, one has a lot of dgr files and others have maybe 5 or 6 separate folders (called things like audio, movies, levels etc). i really have no idea what to do…..it sounds like it should be straightforward but the problem is the games ive downloaded arent iso files! i extract them using winrar and get all these different types of files….help would be greatly appreciated as im dying to play guitar hero!

can we burn 2 games of ps2 in one cd? because the 2 games can fit inside one dvd. Does it still work if you put 2 games and can choose any game from the cd in my ps2 if you already have a modchip?
Superspider - I suggest you go to modchip.com and find the manual for your DUO 3 Ultra modchip, or use google and see if you can find some kind of installation manual.
Duo 3 ultra is probably a solder chip right? So if that is the case, you got to be careful when soldering or you can really mess up your PS2.
Also, can I say c’mon? I know DVD’s are cheap, but no, you cannot put two PS2 games onto one DVD. Heck, sometimes you download PS2 games that are ripped from CDs, and you have to burn these onto CDs, not DVDs.
Likewise, there are some games that look like it can fit on a CD, but needs to be put on a DVD instead to work.
Just let me know what games you are looking at, and I’ll let you know what media to burn it on. 9 times out of 10 it will be DVD-R or DVD+R media. Nuff said.
I have a question. I’ve downloaded and burned a lot of PS2 games without problems. However, with Metal Gear Solid (=Eating Snake and Subsistance) i can only get the main title screen andfwhen trying to choose a new game or anything else the screen just loops. I have three copies the same and I busting to play this game. Has anyone else had the same experience or have any advice? Many thanks.

Also, I got that file from a very limited assortment of PS2 games website. I know torrents have many, but II have tried so many times to download torrents and they simply just do not work (as in the file just never starts downloading and if it does, its never more than 5 kbps). And yes, I went to portforward.com and followed the instructions.

2) What you have right there in front of you is the ISO file itself!
Do you know what that means??? That means you can straight up burn the image file either using dvd decrypter, nero, or any other favorite burning software. Just remember to burn at half the max speed of the rated DVD+r or DVD-R.
As far as your torrenting goes, I highly recommend Utorrent. Afterwards, unblock the port in which Utorrent uses to achieve max speed. If still stuck for explanation, I will write a tutorial at a very soon but undetermined date if need be.
Yes I figured it was the iso file itself. However, there were still complications. I extracted the iso file into a separate folder and got the typical files of a PS2 DVD. Then, using Nero 7, I burned those files (ones you see) onto my DVD-R (and yes it was half max speed). When I put it into my modded PS2, it read “this disc cannot be played.”
And for torrenting, I have tried what you said. If it doesn’t cause any trouble, that tutorial you speak of would be nice.

Maybe what I said was not clear enough. Once you have the ISO file, do not extract the contents of the ISO file!
Just use nero to read the .iso file and the rest will take care of itself.

Yes, I realize that. Did you know that .ISO files are treated like a compressed archive to Winrar? Just because Winrar can open up the ISO doesn’t make it any easier or better for what you are trying to do.
The fact of the manner is you have an ISO file. Use nero to read the .ISO file and proceed from there.

Dhiman - What is your question? If you have a dvd writer, then yes, you can write the PS2 game to blank dvd. If you are asking how to torrent, well, thats an entire other thing.

I looked at other PS2 games and the sizes of the files on the disk are much much larger than what is on this iSo. In all, an entire PS2 disk is a bit more than 4 gigabytes whereas this entire iSo file is barely a few megabytes I think.
Is this an acceptable file?
Fifaworld - That is messed up. Yes, most ISO files range from 700megs to 4.37 gigs, and some PS2 games are larger than 4 5 gigs (dual layer 2 games).
However, most mod chips only work with single layer dvd. Your screenshot I seen earlier makes me believe it will work. Have you tested the tutorial only to find out something is wrong?

Is that a statement or a question? But yes, any backed up game, if done correctly, can work with a correctly installed modchip.

Sorry, DVD rewritable DVDs are not supported on the PS2. Proceed to use DVD-R or DVD+R.

You are almost there, but not quite. I wonder if you have a compatible USB hard drive.
Technically, once you see that Playstation 2 Scene scene, it should move onto the menu select screen in seconds.
Try this, unplug your USB hard drive, and retry the USBAdvance disc with Swap Magic. If it gets past the boot screen, then it is a USB Hard Drive issue I would think.

Don’t worry, you are almost there!
Ok so you have 12 RAR files. Select the very first RAR file. Wait Versatile1, which one is the first RAR file?
Look at the extensions. Notice that it will go in this order hopefully: .R00 up to .R12 or something similiar.
RIght-click .R00, and tell it to extract here or whereever you please. From there, you will see an .ISO file.

Use Swap Magic for best case scenario. I would think a lot of these “do I need a modded PS2 to play burnt games” variations are from kids/teenagers who are so cheap that they truly believe there is some kind of Underground method that would allow a person to play burnt games without paying extra cash out of their pocket.
However, if you are a parent like a mom or dad who looks out for the best intentions of their children, then take no heed on my rants as I know you may be out of the loop which is ok. It is just time after time you see the same questions over and over which can be easily figured out if you read the comments/tutorial. Life is never simple.
A game console is not like a PC where things can be free. You got to spend a bit on the console before things can be free, if you know what I mean.

When I unzip the folder I’m getting files like I have seen the they are in original ps2 game that I have bought and there are no iso image so I burn them with nero like data cd but my ps cant read them. By the way I have modchip and this is my first tray to make a ps2 game. Annoymous - Not enough information given. Are you using DVD decrypter to rip the game? Burn the game? DVD Decrypter is compatible with many DVD burners. Try using Nero instead.

When you unzip the “folder”, are you sure its not an .ISO file itself? Were the contents of the DVD in a zip file or an .ISO file?

hey thats a great guide. im havin a problem tho, when i extracted the .rar files, using win rar, it just made a very big rar file. i had like 40 rar files, and i extracted the frst one which did em all. but i ended up with a 2.7gb rar file, not an an iso. do i just burn the rar file to the dvd?

Are you saying you started with 40 rar files, and after extracting all 40 files it gave you a RAR file?
Is it possible that the 2.7gb rar file is an ISO file and winrar makes you think it is just a RAR file when actually it is an ISO file?

Yes, I don’t see why not. The memor32 is another kind of “mod chip” that can work, although I don’t have it, it would be something I would get if I didn’t have swap magic available.

Your word choice in your post is confusing. You are not compressing any file, and this is throwing me off.
From what I understand though, you are saying you deleted your original files? I never understand why people would be willing to download a game that takes a couple hours, only to delete it after sheer frustration. Sounds like the wussy way out to me.
If it is a torrent file, give me the link, and I will check it out myself first hand and verify what that original RAR file is, which I suspect is an ISO file. I do not know how to take the PS2 game files and convert that into an ISO, as you have to burn the files in a very specific order to make it work.

Your tutorials are really helpful but I think I’m very unlucky because I downloaded Scarface because unfortunately I lost my copy of it and the torrent came with 31 WinRar files.. and when extracted become .iso files. I have Nero, DVD Decrypter, Alcohol 120% and I just cannot figure this out for the life of me with either of those programs. I think I might need a how to burn for dummies tutorial lol.

1) Get winrar. http://www.rarlabs.com Install that program.
2) Extract the .ISO file from the 31 Winrar files you got.
3) You will get one .ISO file, a huge file most of the time. Verify once you gotten to this step.
4) Afterwards, follow the tutorial up above and the rest is easy!

Lol I am a girl not a guy posing with a girl alias. I’ve extracted the WinRar files but they’re all big files do I need a DVD-RW to put all the .ISO files on the disk or can I put them all on at once? I’m very confused. I apologize if I’m a pain in your butt haha.

You have multiple .ISO files? That sounds pretty weird to me. You will need a DVD+R or a DVD-R. Also, before we go any further, you do realize you need some kind of modchip for your PS2 to play this game, right?
If you can get me a screenshot of these multiple ISO files, then I might be better able to help you.

Jimmy - You are correct. It is just one big rar file. What is inside the rar file? Is it the ISO, or is it all the files as you shown me earlier?
haha fair enough.. yes I have a modchip.. I have DVD-R’s. Also when I use WinRaR to extract these files it says the following file already exists

Replace them all wouldn’t hurt. If you extracted them once already, there is no need to extract them again.

I have submitted my question on afterdawn jimmy to see what I can figure out.
There are two ways we can try:
1) Rename the original .RAR to .ISO and see if it can burn.
2) Burn the extracted files as you have shown me earlier as data DVD and see if the PS2 will read this with your modchip.

I already try the second way and that didn’t work, my ps2 can’t read
the data DVD. So I will try with you’re first preposition and I will tell you if it’s working. But when you say to rename the original .RAR to .ISO what do you mean? How do I do that?
Oh pretty easily. Just right click the file, and rename it from .RAR to .ISO. If that doesn’t work properly, then you may need to open up the CMD line and rename it via dos.

Nice try, I can’t zoom in. Oh well. From what I gathered though, we are almost there. In the end, do you have a single .ISO file that is larger than a few gigs? In the original state when you did absolutely nothing, try click the first RAR file, and extracting it to its own folder. Do not do “extract all here” as it can make things more messy.
You see those two text documents? The ones with the “I” icon? Those are considered .NFO files. Open up those manually with wordpad or notepad. Those will have instructions and let you know how to burn it. Or better yet, copy and paste the .NFO contents here.

So according to the .NFO file you have 56 files, each file is 50 megs each. Extract the first file into its own folder, and the rest of the files will follow suit.
In the end, you will have a .ISO file.
I am wondering if you got it extracted already? Do you have a file that is called hy_scarps2.iso.ISO, and it is just one file?
If so, then you can burn it. I wonder if all this confusion is on the extraction when in reality it had been extracted correctly.
Ok what if you DL a gmae that has no ISO file and is only in parts and the parts are unzipped (as i they were never zipped so you cant zip) so how would i get the ISO file?
