[How To] PS2 Game From Torrent to DVD Using Nero

[Update 1/14/2008] Here is a link to a tutorial on how to not make WinRAR recognize your ISO files. Link

[Update 1/19/2008] To play PS2 games, your PS2 needs to be modded, either by a boot disk such as Swap Magic, or a modchip.

[Update 2/10/2008] Real people are having real results with this tutorial. Don’t believe me? Ask Sirpukesalot in comment # 127. I am here for you so you can become a cheap bastard and unleash the power of the Playstation. Comments welcomed to make your life easier. Versatile1

[Update 2/11/2008]  Added a great comment by Harrison which should have been added earlier.  Read his comment so you don’t fall into a pitfall.

Harrison said:

“I think that integration of Iso files into winrar is a major problem. The best way to get around that is to disable ISO integration with winrar. That way when u extract up until u get an ISO file, it will look different.

To do this, simply open up WinRar, on the Menu bar(file, command, tools, favorites,Options,Help),select Options-settings, then integration(usually last top-right after security) here you will find on the left hand side files assocaited with Winrar, simply uncheck the ISO option and press OK.

Thanks it, from here on, winrar will pretend not to know what an ISO file is, but will still extract it if asked to….LOL”

(Tutorial starts below)

Hi all, another great tutorial from the mind of Versatile1. In today’s tutorial, I am going to demonstrate how you can use Nero (it doesn’t matter which version, they are all pretty similar) to burn that PS2 game that you just got from a torrent and make it work on your PS2.

If you want to use DVD Decrypter to burn your PS2 game, please refer to this other article.

Basic assumptions:
1) You have Windows OS.
2) You have Nero installed. Find it here.
3) You know how to use torrents, and have a torrent program. Don’t know how to torrent? Leave a comment to request a tutorial.
4) You have a program that can unzip rar files. I recommend WinRar. Get it at www.rarlabs.com

Step 1. Go to your favorite torrent site, and using your torrent program (I use utorrent) download a PS2 game. If you reside in the United States, make sure you download the NTSC version. If you get a PAL game, it will not work on your TV because it will flicker due to the refresh rate of the TV. NTSC games have 60 Hz refresh rate, but PAL games have 50 Hz refresh rate.

Step 2. Most often than not, the PS2 game you download will comprise of multiple rar files. Select the first rar file, right click and extract it. If not, then you may have just one rar file, which will be your .ISO file. An .ISO file is just a CD/DVD image of the game. Sometimes the file you download from a torrent may be an .ISO file itself, and WinRar will recognize it as a possible archive. If that is the case, you do not need to extract it.

Step 3. Watch as your file extracts. In the end, you will have your .ISO file extracted.

This is what it should look like when the files are extracted:

Step 4. Once your game is extracted, you should have an .ISO file. Now open up Nero. Go to “Image, Project, Copy” and select the “Disc Image or Saved Project”. Remember to insert a blank DVD+R or DVD-R. It is recommended that DVD-R is used because of better compatabilty with PS2 laser, but I have DVD+R work fine so it shouldn’t be an issue.

Screenshot 4

Step 5. In the next screen, select your .ISO file and click Open.

Screenshot 5

Step 6. On the next screen, select the drop down box on the left hand side, and pick your DVD burning speed. For PS2 games, it is best to burn at half the max rated speed of your disc. For instance, if your blank DVD can write at a max speed of 16x, burn at 8x. After selecting your DVD speed, burn the image.

Screenshot 6

Step 7. Depending on what speed you chose, you could wait up to 15 minutes. After a while, it will say your disc is done! After wards, label the disc with a marker, and using your favorite PS2 modchip (swap magic, HDA loader), you can play your game on the PS2.

  1. i have brought a new PS2(about 4 weeks old). But i play downloaded games and few get stuck a bit and sm cliking sound cms frm my PS2.i dnt get it.
my writer burns at a max speed of 12x while the DVD-R is 1x-16x.any technical reason to burn on half speed.i hav burnt at 12x.Pleez answer.what speed shud i use.I have nero 8.

  2. Next time I ask you write in full words please. What I will recommend is to burn at half the max speed of the disc. Why? Because it just works out better that way.

Prime example: I have a 16x disc, I burnt it at 4x, and the game would stutter. Burnt it at 8x, and it works fine.

You use swap magic right? Is this for slim or fat PS2? My guess is slim PS2, which makes me believe you installed the magic key tools or made your own?

  3. Hey man!! thx for the steps!! its easy but i didnt understand what you mean to go ”Image, Project, New” where is this, i cant find it!! btw… i have nero 8 as well

  4. Ok, all you need to do is find the menu that lets you burn from image.

From the main screen of Nero, I am sure it is there somewhere. Just explore around and let me know if you get stuck.

C’mon, this Nero program is made for novices. :)

  5. how do u burn multiple files from rar?
For example i downloaded these files: Gh3-ddd.r01 to
    Gh3-ddd.r62
    gh3-ddd.rar
    gh3-ddd.sfv
So how do i burn them?

    -torrent-to-dvd-using-dvd-decrypter/

  7. so you are saying that if i extract or my files out i get a iso?

  8. That is exactly what I am saying.

  9. thx u solve my problem

  10. Awesome, I’m glad you found the answer.

  11. Hi. In your tutorial you mention magic swap or hda loader as modchips…..but i am guessing the method for burning downloaded games you just explain will also work in ps2 consoles that are “internally” chipped?

  12. do u know were i can get a ps2 modchip?

    thanks

  13. what if that isnt *.iso, its *.mdf ,*.mds files

  14. what do u do if it’s for pc game and there are alot of rar files im trying to extract, it keeps asking me if i want to replace this file. do i say yes or no? and if so i just rename them or what

  15. another problem. when im extracting the files. they are going to folder, i beleive a bin type, not extracting to an iso folder. does this matter?

  16. Jon - What does it mean to be internally chipped? If you got your PS2 with some kind of solder chip installed, then yes, it should work.

Av - After a bit of searching, you would have figured out that we recommend estarland.com for your modchip needs. :P

Zol3 - Please go here and learn: http://www.delphifaq.com/faq/f777.shtml

You can burn these mdf files using Magic ISO.

Barbie - You are doing something wrong. If you extract the first RAR file only, everything else will extract itself out sequentially. If it is a cue with bin file, you are good. Just burn the image file using Nero. Nero will understand how to burn image files. Or you can use a variety of free cd burner softwares to read BIN files.

  17. hi there,
I have downloaded a PAL format game, extracted but it does’nt have any image file(.ISO or any other), all it has is .AFS, .PSS, .IRX etc. can you plz suggest if i make a data dvd will it work with PS2, coz i have to post it as a gift to a friend

    thanx in advance.

  18. I was able to burn the DVD as it was previously asked and replied to use Magic ISO, Which did burn it yet has to be tested.

I have another question, is it possible to convert NTSC format to PAL?. any sugestions plz

    thanx

  19. It is best to just download the game for your region. Don’t bother with the hassle of getting a NTSC game to convert to PAL.

There may be programs out there, but I never tried. I am always a NTSC guy.

  20. ok i did what you said but im making coasters im using swap magic and i got one game that i downloaded to work out of like ten games what am i doing wrong i burned the games the same way i burned the one that works

  21. Hey nice tutorial you got here but I have one question,
when i DL a torrent and extract it using WinRar, I get a bunch of files that are NOT .rar files. Some are data files, and some are just random other files. I looked through all the folders and couldn’t find any .ISO files.

Am I DLing a bad torrent or am I supposed to compress these files into a single image/.iso file? Thanks

  22. Brodie7493 - What game is it? What speed are you burning at? What program are you using?

Neezy23 - Give me a screenshot of the contents of this torrent file. The file you are downloading, is it an .iso itself? Remember that winrar does recognize .iso files as archives, and will gladly extract the contents out of that file onto your hard drive.

  23. I am not sure how to provide you with a screenshot, whether I can post images on here or not, but I can tell you a brief description of each file.

Many of the files are in folders such as AUDIO and ANIM which contain .VIV files (I don’t know what they mean). There are also .GDB files, .IRX files, DAT files, .LOC files, .MGD and .MPC files, .SSH, .ELF, and a .IMG file (Is this the image I should be using? It is only 273kb however)

The file is not an .iso itself, it is a .rar file which I have to extract with winrar. When I do extract the files, I get all the types of files listed above. Any idea what to do here or am I using a fake/useless torrent?

  24. the game is prince of persia .iso for ps2 4.34gigs im burning at 4x using nero i also tried dvd decrypter same result i only got one game to work that game was call of duty 3

  25. I have nero 7 and i have the fat ps2.I bought it two years ago and after a month i took it to a store that puts chips on ps2 and had it chipped…if i burn the downloaded game will it work???

    thx in advance!!!

  26. Neezy23 - Imageshack or photobuck links work fine for screenshots. So the file you downloaded is indeed a .RAR file, it isn’t a .ISO file which happens to be opened by Winrar, right?

If that is the case, you can’t just burn the files to the game and that be it. As sad as that may be, there is a very specific order that the files need to be burnt onto the disc. I don’t know what game you have, so I can’t help you with that particular order. Maybe if you told me the game, I might have the same game, hopefully.

Brodie7493 - I also have prince of persia and my copy works. Please tell me what happens when you try to burn it. Does it fail during burning, or does it fail when you put it in the PS2?

Bestfan - What store takes a customer PS2 and “chip” it? Is this in the USA? I’m rather curious, because a store like that seems highly illegal to me. :P

Yes, if the “chip” is done right, you can play downloaded games, I mean, that is the reason why you brought it to the store in the first place right?

  27. i burned the game and worked just fine with my mod chip,so problem sold. Thanx anyways

  28. yeah thx..and no this store is not in usa!

  29. hi.I have yet another question. I downloaded a game last night, but the folder doesnt contain any zipped files nor any .iso. The game folder is full of files like dmc3sep-dgr.001….and like that till number 70.
    What the hell is this?

  30. Are we sure the files you describe are not rar files? Please get me a screenshot.

  31. I burned the metal slug anthology using your directions and it worked fine untill during the game play it said to “insert metal slug anthology disc”. What do I do to fix this?

  32. Wait, so you are saying you can boot the game fine, but somewhere during the middle of gameplay it says to “insert metal slug anthology disc” ?

  33. yes sir

  34. i’m using swap magic3 plus

  35. hey versatile,i solved the problem.I changed the extension of the first file transforming it into a rar file and it worked just fine….thanx anyway.

  36. Swap magic 3.6? I have no idea really. Did you download or copy it straight up?

  37. downloaded it i did like you said and extracted the firsr rar file

  38. Fantastic! Now it seams very easy. I have only one doubt. What to do with the .MDS file that came along with the .ISO file when we open de .RAR file?

  39. i’m downloading a ps1 game that are all rar files. Do I use the same method as i did for the ps2 game?

  40. MDS file is read by dvd decrypter for writing mode. You can very easily use Nero to burn the ISO file. Nero will understand it, trsut me.

Dave, PS1 you cannot play it on the PS2 using swap magic. You have to use another boot disc called PSX breaker I believe.

There are ways to play PS1 games on the computer though, using Bleem for example.

  41. Dave, I am also d/ling this metal slug anthology, and I will see myself what happens. :P

  42. i used a dvd+r and burned at 8x

  43. I am having a similar problem that Jon had…it is with dmc3sep-dgr or the devil may cry 3 “PS2DVD - Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition [USA] [www.GamesTorrents.com]” torrent and I have unrared with WINrar …then I unrared the .ISO file as well am I not supposed to unrar the .ISO file? I used swapmagic 3.6

  44. Hey it’s me again and I have that image about the torrent I DLed. I tried getting the NBA 2K8 NTSC torrent file and then extracted it using winrar and heres what i got.

    http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/614/problembh0.png

Any idea what to do here? Is it a bad file or did i do something wrong?

  45. Guys, cmon! If you read previous comments, you would clearly know that you are not to use winrar to extract the ISO file. Please use nero to burn the cd image directly. Please look at my pictures in the tutorial!!!!

  46. Sorry I read incorrectly, but I just followed the steps outlined in your tutorial (which said to extract the .rar file to get an .iso file), however I did not know it was an Archive.

Also, If it is an archive file (the single .rar file which is the iso), do we go through the same process in buring the image using nero (FROM STEP 4 and on?).

  47. Chris, once you have an.ISO file, all you have to do is burn it to a blank DVD-

  48. In some cases, the file you are downloading is not a rar file, but the ISO itself. I think that is the case for your situation. If this is true, proceed with step 4 and onward.

    Good luck!

  49. another question…i ‘ve downloaded a torrent(game) but it has many rar files in it…how can i burn it???

  50. Bestfan, after reading your post, I am sort of sad. Sad because it is clear to me (please correct me if I am wrong), that if you read the tutorial you would have clearly seen that in step 2 I explitcitly state this:

Please tell me what you do not understand, only then I can save you. God have mercy on your soul.

  51. im so sry….but thx for making it clear to me…
does anyone know which site is the best to download ps2 torrents????

  52. Does Isohunt mean anything to you? :P

  53. it means a whole bunch of isos!!!thx u re so great!!!!!
Do u own a website or something like that????

  54. No, only thing I own is this blog.

  55. oh ok…but you r great on explaining things!!!

  56. Thanks. I do my best here. I only write what I do because of people like yourselves who want to better themselves.

  57. Versatile did u get the metal slug anthology downloaded and played yet?

  58. No not yet, haven’t been actively downloading it. In the meantime, I suggest posting your problem on the PS2 DVD backup discussion at afterdawn.com

  59. its also possible that i could have used a messed up file

  60. Good news, downloading the game today and will be done with it in the next hour or so.

Please update me as to how soon the game screws up when you try it and I will confirm.

  61. Don’t mind me, just here to tell you how great you are lol

Tutorials with understandable explanations, visual guides, and an author who will answer your questions no matter how simple they are; ain’t easy to find.

I’ve seen lots of tutorials and so far yours has helped me the most.

So keep up the good work =)

  62. i tried to burn the game fighting for the pasific but before finishing it said burning failed at 8x…ve done everything u said but it appeard this message(it says their is an error of the dvd writer…i just installed it and it’s seperate from my old cd writer)

  63. i tried again and it worked fine this time BUT
when i inserted it into my ps2 it showed playstation 2 logo and then it got me back to the memory card screen…obviously it can’t read it..what do u suggest?

  64. Calvin - It’s comments like you that makes me proud of what I have written.

I am a heavy user of Afterdawn forums, and after seeing people post the same kind of questions over and over, I was like Time to write a tutorial and stop these repeating threads! :P .

Bestfan - Sounds like to me you might have DVD-Writer issues. Please remember to burn the game at half the max speed of the disc, turn off any programs that utilize your hard drive, and turn off your antivirus program, and disconnect from the internet if you have to.

This will make troubleshooting that much easier. With the second scenario of it blanking out back to the memory card screen comes the more important question: Are you using a modchip? Swap Magic perhaps? Answer my question then I can help you more. Same goes to future commentors. :)

  65. Hey, first off this is like a late chirstmas present for me. I have searched for the past week for a good tutorial and while forums have people that ask similar questions it’s hard to piece together a process that’s so easy as you have done. kudos to you!

I’m using NeroStartSmart (is this a bad choice on my part?) and for writing speed I only have 4 options… I have Maximum, x1, x2 and x2.4. Is using maximum speed terribly horrible?
Also should I finialize the dvd, is there a difference?

Oh, last question (sorry I have a lot) I think you mentioned above something about PS games needing someother chip to play on PS2? So I guess I have to go find the PS console…

    Thanks in advance :]

  66. Why thank you!

Nero Start Smart is ok, I guess its fine for novice users. Personally, I use nero express, which is part of the nero 7 package, and all Nero packages really. I do note that you have a really slow DVD burner, which is ok I suppose.

I am just worried that sometimes burning too slow can be a problem too, just a word of warning. Yes, finalize the DVD.

Now I never copied PS1 games before, and technically you can make a backup and make them work, but it uses a different method of playing on your PS2, and maybe PS1. Honestly, PS1 games aren’t that great, just move onto PS2. :p

  67. I realized my problem. If you open the file before you put the DVD in, then those are the values that show up for some reason. I just tried few mins ago and i had the dvd in already from before and it had the right speeds.
    Thanks a bunch!
    -bookmarks theunderground- :]

  68. Versatile1,

Thanks for the tutorial, and for replying to questions no matter how obvious the answer would be if you read the guide.

I can transfer a downloaded iso to my PS2 hard drive with WinHIIP it usually works too. Now my brother burned a couple of the Iso images to DVD-R. Of course they wont work without a swap or a mod, but he did not know that.

My question is, Do you know if I can use the files on these burnt dvds to create an iso that I will be able to load with HdLoader or would that be a waste of time?

Thanks and keep up the good work,
    Bill

  69. I never used HdLoader, but I think it can make iso files from your DVD-R discs. Make iso’s and put it on your PS2 hard drive, and you will be good to go.

  70. my iso came as a winrar file but i no it dont recognise a iso but i also had to rebuild it too.once i rebuilt it,it had loads of different files.now to burn it am i better putting them all back into a rar file so its just one complete file.

  71. Sorry, please write better next time. Are you saying that the ISO file you downloaded is not an ISO file, but a Winrar archive?

How did you rebuilt the ISO file? What method did you use?

  72. I used winrar to extract the rar file and all it extracted was another rar file.I then copied that rar file to ultraiso to rebuild it because the file was 4.5GB which I was told was to big and needed to be around 2.5GB.When it finished it was about 10 different files instead of 1 file.I saw a earlier comment that you said that when you extract a rar file sometimes it shows another rar file because it dont recognise iso files.

  73. IT WAS A ISO FILE BUT SHOWING UP AS A RAR FILE

  74. THIS IS WHAT I WAS TOLD TO DO

In FIFA 08 and NHL 08 rebuilding is much easier - just open the .iso file in UltraISO, copy all the files to your local drive 9notice that they are only ~2,5GB in size instead of 4,5GB!) and burn them in Nero (use UDF/ISO DVD, set UDF type to physical, 1.02) - that’s all.

  75. Hi all, just read the entire blog, and as a new PS2 owner but old PC user, I guess most of the questions here are centered on extracting files from multiple rar files. I will try (with Versatile1’s permission of course) to make a suggestion:

I think that integration of Iso files into winrar is a major problem.

Thanks it, from here on, winrar will pretend not to know what an ISO file is, but will still extract it if asked to….LOL

  76. Harrison, excellent point. Maybe what I should have said ages ago is to make WinRAR not associate .ISO files with WinRAR at all.

This way there is no reason for you to screw up and unzip something when you shouldn’t need to.
    ************
In honor of Harrison, I have made this special post because its about time it needs to be said.
    http://versatile1.wordpress.com/2008/01/14/how-to-use-winrar-not-recognize-iso-files/

  77. hey versatile1 i was hoping you could help me out here. i d/loaded castlevania symphony of the night and when i unrared it i got an mdf and mds file. do i need to convert it to an .iso file or just burn it as is? also i ripped a few ps2 originals i have to back up and i got the .iso files but also an .mds file. when burning to a dvd must i also add the .mds file as well as the .iso? or do i just burn the .iso? i used dvd decrypter to rip the games btw.

  78. Do I need any ps2 modchip to play ps2 games?

  79. Do people really search on here, or do they just not know that I have written some good tutorials? >_>

Tensofblends - Go to this link and read up:
    http://versatile1.wordpress.com/2008/01/02/what-is-an-mds-file/

In short, use DVD decrypter in Write mode to burn your game. Burn at 1/2 the max rated speed of your DVD+R or DVD-R disc.

If you use DVD decrypter to rip the games, you can use it again to burn the games too. If you have an .ISO file, then any burning software can read the .ISO file and burn it. The .MDS file is not required.

Ruinattack - Yes, you need a modchip of some sort to play your backed up PS2 games.

  80. hey thanks a lot man

  81. hi man thanks for this great tutorial but I have a problem. When I unzip the folder I’m getting files like I have seen the they are in original ps2 game that I have bought and there are no iso image so I burn them with nero like data cd but my ps cant read them. By the way I have modchip and this is my first tray to make a ps2 game. I want to sent you a screen shot from the files that I get but I don’t no how so if you can tell me how.(I have made the screen shot but I don’t know how to send that to you).

  82. This is how the screen shot of the file that i get looks like:

  83. Is it correct to say there is no image?

  84. how come i cna’t change the disc speed….. it does not allow me to click the drop down button

  85. It is perhaps your dvd burner only burns at one speed, or the disc you have can only be recognized at one speed.

  86. [IMG]http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/jimmy26_6_6/Screen03.jpg[/IMG]
I hope this time I manage to send you my screenshot if not please tell me so I can try again.

  87. hey quick question

would these steps work with imports?
    (swapmagic required ill assume)
because im dling about 1 or 2 japanese games rite now and im wondering if it’ll work the same way as the US games
    thx for the response also(inadvance)

  88. How come every time i burn a disc my playsation says can’t read the disc or something like that.
    **I do have a modchip**

  89. Yes, I have a Japanese fighting game and it seems to work well. :P

Annoymous - No idea. Can you update your modchip firmware? :P

  90. What does that mean because i have other games that work on my PS2 it’s just the ones that i make that do not work

  91. Are you burning the games correctly?

What current backed up games work with your proclaimed modchip?

  92. i have Nba live o8 the new naruto smack down raw 2008 and dynasty orichi ( those all are games that i got form friends that are butnt the game that i keep making doesn’t work

  93. I downloaded sonic zero gravity
the problem is all the files r winrar files and the ISO files r inside em…
so what am i suppose 2 do ?

  94. I suggest you let your friends help you burn your games, because you are doing something wrong Annoymous.
Bo.Kya.Ku - Did you even read my tutorial? Shameful. If you read the tutorial, you would have clearly read Basic Assumption number 4) You have a program that can unzip rar files. I recommend WinRar. Get it at http://www.rarlabs.com.,/b>

Incompetence is not accepted here. :)

Get that program, unzip your winrar files to get the ultimate ISO file, and proceed to burn with Nero as shown in the tutorial.

  95. Can i burn with image recorder?

  96. Burn with nero or dvd decrypter.

  97. nero

  98. Use the drop down box in nero for your dvd burner, not the image recorder.

  99. But i have a dvd burner but for some reason i cannot use it with Nero or dvd decyripters. But when i use image recorder it works with the dvd burner

  100. Weird. Something is wrong with your PC, as Nero should let you use the DVD burner. Have you ever burnt data DVDs with Nero before?

  101. [...] [How To] PS2 Game From Torrent to DVD Using Nero [...]

  102. No i have never used Nero as i got it to make games only

  103. Hey Versatile,
I know that this isn’t really something to ask on this forum but i wanted to knoe whether or not i will be able to use my PS2 (modded to play NTSC games as well)on an NTSC television as i bought my PS2 from Dubai but i’m currently presiding in Canada. Please let me know at the most convenient time for you! Thanks in advance, i look forward to hearing from you!

  104. I really don’t know frankly. How about you try a NTSC game and see if it works? Rent a game from a rental store.

If the game doesn’t work, then your PS2 is PAL, and that would mean you need PAL games. :(

  105. Hey again,
I just wanted to let you know that my system can play NTSC games but only ripped ones……….for some reason i can’t play original games…….or maybe i can i’ve never tried it. Anyways see the thing is ican’t play it on my current tv because all it has is awhite and a yellow port without any red. So i guess that’s the reason. Anyways i’d still apreciate an answer if you have one but this weekend i’m going to check whther or not it works with all three ports on a television (white, red and yellow). Oh and also in Nero 8 can i burn the DVD through Nero Burning ROM because that is the only program in which i can burn ISO files onto DVDs. Thanks in advance.

  106. Hold up man. If it can play ripped games, but not original NTSC games, that seems like a whacked system to me. :P

You can get by if you have white and yellow. Yellow is for video, and white is for audio. You need red and white for stereo audio, but if you only have one, then it should work all right I would think.

I use nero express, but burning rom works equally well. (same engine)

  107. Hey man tnx alot n i’m pretty sure i can play original PS2 games n BTW my tv is very old so if that has something to do with not being able to play it do u think it will be different if i connect wires from Dubai into a Canadian television? or do i just have to scan for it to find a signal? Cuz i don’t have a remote to scan.

  108. Just go to channel 3 and try it out. What do you mean wires from Dubai?

I’m sure video connector cables are the same regardless of the country.

Just mess around with your TV, or a friend’s TV.

  109. Thanks alot man n that’s exactly what i was planning on doing!

  110. i burned it with nero ,and its on the disk ,i put it in playstaion 2 slimline and it doesnt work i follewd ur guide and rar is extract what do i do ,do i need a program to finalize it or something please help ,

  111. so, i won’t be able to play the downloaded game without modchip?
so there’s no point of downloading them?
cos i can’t get any modchip in my country

is there any other way to play downloaded game without modified the PS2?
    i have a slim PS2

  112. What country are you from? Perhaps you can buy it and have it sent to you?

With no mod chip, you cannot play these downloaded games. However, there is a memory card exploit, and Memor32. Check into Memor32 and see if you can buy that. It is a modchip but in memory card form, and youc an play your downloaded games that way I suppose.

Yes, you can use your slim PS2.

  113. Hey again sorry for posting so much but everything is working fine n i just wanted to thank you for all your help Versatile n i also wanted to let u noe that my PAL PS2 works fine here the only thing is for PAL games i have to change the frequency to 60Hz but sice i can’t change the startup screen it will always come blurred on my PS2 i don’t really care but i just wanted to know if there is any way to fix this from the settings or something since it seems to be working for my games right?

Also i just wanted to let u noe that im gonna burn my first game tomorrow (its Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition) and i hope it works fine according to your instructions!

Till then i eagerly await ur reply,
    Sirpukesalot

P.S.:I tried it out n NTSC games work fine on my PS2 all- original and ripped!

  114. I have no idea. Using swap magic, select the PAL version and you are good to go.

Also, I am glad that your NTSC games work with the PS2 also.

Let me know how it fails, and I can assist you. I have the retail version of DMC3, but I have never backed it up. I hope everything goes well with you.

  115. Hey Versatile,
im burning the dvd-r disc right now so-fingers crassed-it’ll all be fine! BTW i just wanted to know……do i have to use swap magic for the game to work or can i run it completely normally with the modchip that i have (im not sure what it is)becuz my friend once burnt a CD for me n it worked fine with my modchip as it is so please lemme noe.

    Regards
    Sirpukesalot

  116. the file i dled it too large for the dvd, how do i remove things so it will fit, while leaving the game “runnable”

  117. Sirpukesalot - Try it out with your modchip. Or better yet, have your friend teach you how to use it properly. Why you consulting me if your friend is just around the corner?

    M0nk3ys - PS2 games come as DVD5 or DVD9. DVD5 is 4.34gigs roughly, and DVD9 is about 9 gigs.

Swap magic cannot read DVD9 backed up games. It is possible to do something called “rebuilding” which will compress a DVD9 game to DVD5.

I have never done that before. I have read guides, but it can really be a pain in the ass.

Case in point: Gran Turismo 4, God of War 2. These are DVD9 games so they are about 8 gigs. The guides for these are not easy to follow, and it is a lot of work.

In those cases, I recommend you download DVD5 games all the time. Thank you.

  118. well i did dl DVD5 games, around 3 gigs, they fit onto my dvd, but when i try to load em on my ps2 (yes it is modded), nothing happens, i jsut has the browser screen. Ive tried games that other ppl dled onto DVD5, and they work fine. But the games ive burned dont work…i followed all the steps in ur guide tho

  119. Ask your buddies what they are doing that is different from you.

A downloaded game is a downloaded game, unless the ones are you using are special.

Give me the names that are giving you trouble.

  120. none of the games i dled work, so all of em are giving my trouble lol…naruto ultimate ninja 2, time crisis 3, bleach blade battlers 2…

  121. Worst of luck. I don’t have those so I can’t comment.

  122. This is the most helpful site I have found, very clear, and concise tutorial. Versatile 1 you have great patience, keep up the good work.

  123. I take pride in my work. I am always looking at commentor’s feedback. If there are ways to make it even easier, let me know and I will gladly revise it.

  124. Hi, versatile, just wondering if u will need a hand in answering some questions.

  125. then versatile, what site do you get your games, and what games have worked for you?

  126. Harrison - Check your email for more details.

M0nk3ys - Do you really want to know how Versatile1 scores with the PS2 scene? Ok, I’ll give you some insight.

A good 85% of my games or so I get them from friends or a rental store, and rip them myself with the tutorial above.

The other 15% I have gotten them from the internet via either torrents or rapidshare.

Examples of games that I have gotten to work include: God of War 2, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2, Gradius V, Suidoken V, Metal Gear 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear 3: Solid Snake, Bloody Roar 4, and a whole slew of other games.

I suggest you take a look at this link and marvel at what you are missing:

    http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p28ncn6kYKoMx_0A7VXraHQ

I am the master of that spreadsheet, but I have compiled that list with help of others. Enjoy.

  127. Hey Versatile! Man im so happy to be back on this forum n testify! So, i followed your exact instructions for my downloaded DMC3:SE and when i first tried it out on my PS2 it didn’t work and it went back to the “Please Insert either PS1 or PS2 cd” the second time it read it till after the “Plastation 2″ sign shows up n then it went back to the same screen again………….but i din’t give up i tried once more n i guess whoever said third time’s a charm was right cuz it worked! From then on i’ve had no troubles loading it up again n the game’s workin 100% perfectly like an original game. Thanks alot Versatile i owe u 1 man without this forum i wouldn’t have figured out how to do it. Thnks to this forum i can now enjoy quality PS2 games without wasting a penny! So thnks again man n pleez lemme noe if u can get a link to a torrent for Kingdow Hearts 2 n God Of War cuz i really wanna burn these games! Also i checked out your spreadsheet n there are sum fixes or sumthin for God Of War so if u can pleez lemme noe what it means n what do i have to do to make it work or what torrent is the right one to download! Thnks alot again Versatile!
    Till u reply
    Regards,
    Sirpukesalot

  128. Wow, a user with real success. Now that’s what I’m talking about!

Why should I have all the fun. You need to find the torrents yourself. Go to isohunt.com or torrentz.com

Note for God of War fans: When searching for torrents, make sure it says DVD5, and NTSC. No point if you live in the USA/Canada and you get a PAL game.

Update: Main tutorial updated with new comments. This tutorial is for you guys, so I want you to have success. I get no money, no ads clicked, no revenue or anything from this. Only thing I get from this blog is utter intellectual satisfaction. :)

  129. i use utorrent too, and after the downloading part is at 100%, do i to wait for it to seed? rite after it gets to 100%, the status part says seeding, then the ETA is like a week, do i have to wait for it to seed?? >_>

  130. When you download, you upload at the same time. Once you are at 100%, seeding it is effectively your contribution to the world. Rule of thumb: Seed 1:1 ratio, its the only way torrent community will thrive.

  131. sup Versatile! i have a question for you about burning the torrents to dvds with nero.i just started about four days ago and i knew nothing about torrents and now i have everything i need except 1 problem. i wanted to know if a HP DVD 740b dvd writer could burn the games effectively without problems or would i have to use another burner?

  132. sorry to be a pain but i have one more question.ok, somewhere in the process of me trying to burn the torrent onto a dvd the file turned into an image file. am i just supposed to burn the image file onto the dvd and it should play or did i do something wrong?

  133. Kaizer - Did you read the tutorial? Because through screenshots 4-7, you would clearly understand how to use Nero and burn the image file.

Sorry, let me start over. :P

    1) HP DVD 740B should work. If it is a DVD writer, you can burn your files.

    2) Is your PS2 modded? Do you have swap magic? There is no way to play these games for free without intervention on your part with the purchase of extra hardware. If you do not have what I stated above, then stop what you are doing, get the modchip/swap magic, and then you can burn your games and play them.

    3) Do you realize that your last comment made no sense? When you say burn torrent onto a DVD, do you mean the torrent file itself (about 5 kb), or do you mean the end result file you got through the torrent? Example: A RAR or an .ISO file.

  134. Hey again man! Listen i just wanted to check whther .nrg images burn fine onto DVDs cuz i downloaded Kingdom Hearts 2 n when i unzipped the compressed files the file was like a disc image only an unfimiliar one-.nrg so i just wanna make sure whther that’s fine
    Thnks again
    Regards,
    Sirpukesalot

  135. Are you serious? NRG is nothing more than the special ISO format for Nero.

Load up Nero, and you can read that file. If not, let me know.

  136. sorry about that. i meant the image file that i extracted from the rar files.it didnt say .iso, it just says image files and is 1,883,232 kb’s. is this the file i burn onto the dvd? and yes i just got swap magic so im new at this.

  137. Get me a screenshot and upload to imageshack.us or photobucket.com

I have no idea what these image files are and I’m sure they have some kind of extension to it. They have to have a file extension!

  138. here is the link to the image on photobucket:

    http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj37/kaizerrose/imagefile.jpg

    i hope you can help.

  139. Get me a bigger screenshot of that image. I suspect you have another DVD burning program that is associating that image file.

Do you have Roxio installed? Easy cd creator?

  140. i have image burn, dvd decrytpter and nero. thats the ones i got.also, when i went to “open with” then “choose program”when i right clicked it, at the top it says “nsna2.iso. so im guessing its an iso file then ^_^, sorry for being a noob about this.so do i do the same steps with this file even though it looks different than the .iso file in the example?

  141. Yes, there is nothing to lose.

  142. hi im new at backing up games. When I extract my torrent, i dont get a file with iso under it just the name of the game. when i click on it it comes up with all of files in the game. when I try to burn these files it burns for a while then says can not complete burn at 4x. I am using nero 7

  143. Get me a screenshot with the file extension and I will definitely know what you have.

Also, do not delete the game files too early in despair. I had a fellow here who was frustrated and deleted his files before I found the right solution for him. :P

  144. Hey,
I had this problem…i followed every step but when it came to inserting the DVD to the playstation the little disc showed up..i pressed it..the screen went black and 2 seconds later the same menu with the memory card and disc showed up again…i tried several times..any suggestions? thanks a lot!! btw GREAT stuff you’ve done here.!

  145. Say hello to great timing replies.

The most important question I have for you is what modchip are you using. *gasp* You don’t have a modchip? Please prove me wrong.

Am I correct in saying you took your copied game, put it in the PS2, and you have the icon errors as described above? This is what I think. Prove me wrong again if I am wrong. :P

  146. Thank you “Versatile1″ this tutorial is sooo helpful! =D But will this same process work for the ps2 torrents with multiple rar files? [IMG]http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/aZn_haN/untitled-1.jpg[/IMG]

  147. What i KNOW i have is something that can play pirated games. I sent it to a place where they got it done and i can buy pirated games. I guess they ‘installed’ a modchip or something to make it work..but i dont know why the burned game does not.

    thanks

  148. Nate - Let’s revisit step number 2.

Once you do that, you will have your ISO file, and then you can burn it.

Mike K - Interesting. May I ask what country you did that service in? Fat PS2 or Slim PS2? I don’t know what the issue is with people who have modchips installed in their PS2, but can’t play copied games as described above.

If I even knew what kind of chip it was, like Matrix or DSM, then perhaps I can lead you in the right direction. Alas, this time I cannot. :(

  149. ugghh useless!!! haha..just kidding man!!
i’ll just go buy them i guess..

    thanks alot anyway!!

  150. Hi,

i downloaded a torrent (ps2 game), however after extracting it, it has three files… none are ISO… they are…

    I00 File (3.99 gb)…
    I01 File (310 mb)…
    MDS File (4.9kb)…

can someone please help me fugure out how to download this game on a dvd-r so i can play it on a ps2. I know how to burn & copy a movie on a dvd using nero startsmart (version 6) but i’ve never burnt a game for a ps2 before. i’m a complete novice, and dont want to waste dvds either.

Also it mentions in the tutorial [Now open up Nero. Go to “Image, Project, Copy” and select the “Disc Image or Saved Project”] … i open up nero startsmart and then what do i click on as i cant find image >> project >> copy…

sorry for sounding dumb! but could you please help me as i’ve been on afew sites asking and the only reply i get is “Perhaps you should buy the original instead of illegally downloading it.” OOPS!

  151. Have no fear. I believe this particular image format is native to a program called Alcohol 120%.

Search google and use that to burn your image files. Alcohol 120% is very easy to use, and it even has a wizard. I trust you can handle this ok?

The reason your Nero setup is different is because you have an older version of Nero, or you are not looking hard enough. Do not use Nero Startsmart. Go to Start -> Programs -> Nero -> Nero Express. This will solve your journey.

You are almost to the finish line dude, don’t despair. :)

  152. okay (and before it crosses your mind, yep! i’m slooooooowww)…

    i downloaded alcohol 120% trial.

i opened the folder where the game is and a .mds file is the only one that pops up… i click on it and its in the box… now do i click on ‘image burning wizard’ (which is on the left side panel) and then start the burning procedure??

    3 reasons why im asking…

    1) i figure things out really really slowly
    2) i’ve read the manual but i always think im reading the wrong thing
    3) i didnt know that i had to download/burn the game as an ‘image’ to play on ps2

i really appreciate you helping me out.

    THANKS

  153. What you said is correct. Alcohol 120% use the MDS file to burn the image file. Think of it as a table of contents.

Most likely you have an image file. Make sure to set the disc writing speed at half the max speed of the disc.

Despite all that has been said, I sure hope you have a mod chip available or all this downloading would have been in vain.

  154. !!!!!!!!

Well the burning went all according to plan, (i think)… it said completed at the end… wouldnt work on the ps2 though so im guessing it doesnt have a mod chip!

    *sighs*

thank you so much for your help anyways, i really appreciated it.

  155. Hi, Versatile

I have downloaded a torrent game (PS2 robocop multiplyer 5) and I got two files: .bin and .cue

.bin file doesn,t contain any .iso file, as I didn’t extract it and I have burned it on DVD using nero. The game doesn’t work . Can you please help me?

  156. Nicole, go to step four of the tutorial. When you click “Disc Image or Saved Project”, proceed to pick the drop down box and select “All Supported Images and Compilations and Images”. This will recognize your cue file. Select the cue file, and burn as normal.

    Enjoy!

  157. Hi, Versatile

Thank you very much for your help. Your indications were very useful, but the game still not works because an internal problem of mine, I supposed. After selecting the .cue file as you said, Nero Express gave me two error messages:

    1. Cannot open the file D:\PS2 Robocop Multi5\my cd.bin
    2. An error occured while loading the cue sheet file D:\PS2 Robocop Multi 5.cue (line 1)

Should I download again the game, eventually from another torrent tracker?

    Thank you for existing you.

  158. Nicole, don’t give up just yet!

    Try out this link: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/bin_cue_with_nero.cfm

I wonder if your cue file is bad and just needs to be re-written. To keep things simple, I advise you keep the bin file name just one word, with no spaces in the name.

Proceed to edit the cue file and have it point to the newly named bin file. Best to open the existing cue file with notepad and save it with the same file extention, “.cue”. To save it like that, make you you do “save as” and in the file drop down box under “Save as type” put “All Files”.

Let me know if this works for you.

  159. Hi Versatile,

I have downloaded a .nrg ps2 game. I’m guessing that this game is a cd not a dvd..I could be wrong. I’m trying to burn it using dvd decrypter and and it says that there doesn’t appear to be enough space on the disc you are using to burn this image.

    Image size: 1,114,912 Sectors
    Disc size: 359,844 Sectors.

How and what should I do to properly burn this image? I have a slim ps2 and using swap magic w/keys.

    Thanks for your help!!

  160. Oh way too easy! This is what you need to do Michelle. The .NRG format is a special ISO format made for nero.

Get a copy of nero, and use that burn the image file. Use the same steps in the tutorial, but replace .ISO with .NRG. In fact, there should be a drop down box where it recognizes the .NRG files.

You will need to use a blank DVD, not a CD. Your particular game is actually 1.1 Gigs, so thats why you got to use a DVD.

    Good Luck!

  161. Hi Versatile,

I have run int trouble after i etract the file it doesnt
convert into a ISO file what should i do ?

    Thanks in advance

  162. How about you get me the screenshot of your original file with the extension on it, and then give me another screenshot of the files after it is extracted.

    Use photobucket or imageshack.us.

    Thanks.

  163. Forget the other problem i figured it out but
    a new one appeared.

when burning it doesnt let me choose the burning speed

    what can i do

  164. Bite the bullet and proceed to burn?

Is it possible that you have Nero Imagerecorder selected, and not your actual DVD burner?

  165. Hi, Versatile

I carefully followed your instruction ( .bin file renaming - in just one word, editing the .cue file and pointing it to the newly name) and I got two files with the same name:
    - robocop.bin
    - robocop.cue with the following content: FILE ” Robocop.bin” BINARY
    TRACK 01 MODE 1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00

Everything worked OK until I tried to burn the .cue. The following error message appeared:

“Sorry, your compilation cannot be written on this kind of disc. Please insert a disc of correct type or modify the settings of your compilation to make it compatible with the current disc.

    Disc required for compilation CD/RW
    Disc in the recorder (Empty)

Under this terms, do you think there any chance to burn the .cue using Nero or I should try another burner?

  166. Are you using the right kind of media?

Try a blank DVD first, and then a blank CD if that fails.

Right click the .bin file, go to properties, and what does the file size say? If it is 700megs or less, use a blank CD.

Try using dvd decrypter in write mode. I have a tutorial that shows you how to burn this as well.

  167. <
