[How To] Burn a PS2 Game (From Torrent) To DVD Using Nero
Foreword: This is one of my favorite tutorials, and re-writing it from scratch is a lot of work. By doing it over again, I hope to convey to you the awesomeness of the PS2, and if you are an owner of it, you need to give it more love than you think it deserves. It needs you, and you need it.
As usual, The Undergound does not support or advocate piracy. We support making backups of games that you own. We realize that sometimes games can be scratched, so making a digital backup is impossible and in lieu of buying the game again, you can download the PS2 game from a torrent. If you do this method, only do it if you own a retail version of the game.
Downloading games that you do not legally own is illegal, and we want no part of that. Follow the law. Play with a conscience mind. Thank you. ~ Versatile

Introduction
Yes, it is true. You can make a backup of your PS2 game (for legal purposes of course) to preserve your original game. However, what do you do if your favorite game has gotten scratched up over the years? Do you want to go out and buy another copy of it? Oh wait, Gamestop doesn’t have that game anymore? What are you going to do?
Have you considered Torrents?
Wait, what are torrents? In short, it is a small table of contents file called a “torrent” and you use it with a “torrent client” program. From here, it will download the required files from other people online who are sharing the file for the online community.
Unfortunately, this article is not meant to be about torrents but rather show the user how to take a PS2 game that they got from a torrent, extract it from the Winrar files, and burn the ISO file using Nero.

Assumptions (makes it easier for the rest of the tutorial)
1) You have some kind of RAR file extractor. Examples include Winrar (shareware), and 7-zip (freeware)
2) You have Winrar or equivalent program configured properly. More specifically, the program does not see your ISO file as an extractable file.

As a past commenter had said, he does not want the user to fall to this mistake either. See the original quote below:
Harrison: I think that integration of Iso files into winrar is a major problem. The best way to get around that is to disable ISO integration with winrar. That way when u extract up until u get an ISO file, it will look different.
To do this, simply open up WinRar, on the Menu bar(file,command,tools,favorites,Options,Help),select Options-settings, then integration(usually last top-right after security) here you will find on the left hand side files assocaited with Winrar, simply uncheck the ISO option and press OK.
Thanks it, from here on, winrar will pretend not to know what an ISO file is, but will still extract it if asked to….LOL
3) Your PS2 is modded via swap magic, modchip, or perhaps an exploited memory card. To learn more about PS2 modding, see the guide below:

4) You have a DVD burner, and a spindle of blank DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs.
5) You have read this guide on DVD class media. This is very important for a successful and readable disc for the PS2.

6) You have a passion to learn. You know how to use the computer, and you have Nero installed (all versions are very similar). You may not be tech savvy, but you are willing to try out new things. If you are stuck, please leave a comment!
Tutorial Begins Here
Pre-word: Today’s tutorial is an example of me having downloaded a Ratchet and Clank Goin’ Commando game. Learn how to extract the game to get the ISO file, and then burn it for PS2 use.
Step 1. Go to your favorite torrent site, and using your torrent program (I use utorrent) download a PS2 game. If you reside in the United States, make sure you download the NTSC version. If you get a PAL game, it will not work on your TV because it will flicker due to the refresh rate of the TV. NTSC games have 60 Hz refresh rate, but PAL games have 50 Hz refresh rate. Once again, we do not support piracy. Only download games that you legally own!
Step 2. Most often than not, the PS2 game you download will comprise of multiple rar files. Select the first rar file, right click and extract it. If not, then you may have just one rar file, which will be your .ISO file. An .ISO file is just a CD/DVD image of the game. Sometimes the file you download from a torrent may be an .ISO file itself, and WinRar will recognize it as a possible archive. If that is the case, you do not need to extract it.
Step 3. Watch as your file extracts. In the end, you will have your .ISO file extracted.
This is what it should look like when the files are extracted:
Note: I always get questions about this. If you just have an .ISO file and no .MDS file, that is OK. All we care about is the .ISO file.
If you have a .NRG, .MDF, .BIN with .CUE file or other, that is OK. Nero and other similar programs can burn these files too!
Step 4. Once your game is extracted, you should have an .ISO file. Now open up Nero. Go to “Image, Project, Copy” and select the “Disc Image or Saved Project”. Remember to insert a blank DVD+R or DVD-R. It is recommended that DVD-R is used because of better compatibility with PS2 laser, but I have DVD+R work fine so it shouldn’t be an issue.
Step 5. In the next screen, select your .ISO file and click Open.
Step 6. On the next screen, select the drop down box on the left hand side, and pick your DVD burning speed. For PS2 games, it is best to burn at half the max rated speed of your disc. For instance, if your blank DVD can write at a max speed of 16x, burn at 8x. After selecting your DVD speed, burn the image.
Step 7. Depending on what speed you chose, you could wait up to 15 minutes. After a while, it will say your disc is done! Afterwards, label the disc with a marker, and using your favorite PS2 modding method (swap magic, HDA loader, modchip, memory card exploit), you can play your game on the PS2.

It’s like the cue file for a .bin. Just use imgburn to burn the ISO and be done with it.

question: i recently got my ps2 slim modded(i have a modchip installed). i bought some cheap pirated games from the market and they work fine. so i thought of downloading ps2 games from torrents and burning them. i downloaded a game and burned it correctly on a Imation DVD-R. it didnt work.. so i tried burning other games on Imation DVD-R(i have a bundle of Imation) but it didnt work either. so i wanted to ask that why am i not able to run downloaded games but i can run bought pirated games even though i have a modchip? i have a friend who burned it on a Sony DVD-r and it worked on his PS2. is it a difference of dvd company?should i use another brand? pls reply as soon as possible…

i think its a dvd brand problem….the pirated games that i have bought are mostly silver and they run fine.
Silver discs are totally different!!!! Tell me how you can buy a blank DVD that is silver pressed on the bottom? You don’t. I suspect the seller had some kind of special silver pressed burning machine, hence, your PS2 can read it perfectly.

I have a ps2 slim moded way back in 2007 and i could play the tales of abyss game (the one from TPB) but the old copy my friend gave me was broken? i think, so i downloaded my own and burned the iso onto the disk. I tried alcohol 120%, dvd decrypter, and just plain burning it from the thing they have in windows7 that lets u burn onto an empty disk. However the games burned by 120% and decrypter led to the red screen saying insert a format disk for ps2. I tried a running the disk over and over but the one i burned with win7 worked sometimes and sometimes lead me to red screen again. I don’t get what is happening could you explain or give me some way of fixing it? i could play any import games fine as well, some old burnt ones still work.
What is your mod chip? Why not install FMCB and install the game to usb hard drive or play over the network?
I have SCPH-90004 SS PS2 with a sumo lite modchip. Will it run games burnt using Nero? I am asking because i read a tutorial of burning discs by using Alcohol 120% to break the protection and blah blah. those discs worked fine and still do. question is: Is breaking the protection necessary? or nero will do fine?
Nero is fine. I use imgburn, and dvd decrypter.

Yes of course. Without hardmod or softmod, you cannot play any backups period.

Question. my PS2 has no modchip but it has been converted with the special coper that allows to to start it up with a boot disk so i can play other games from other countries, like Japan. is this enough to start up a DVD+R with the iso burned onto it?

OK it worked…. mostly. Nero didn’t work very well so I used SlySoft CloneCD to burn it and it worked. The only problem i have is that the sound on the game tends to loop, or skip. other than that the plays just fine.
now it’s loading slowly…..
Never had a skipping audio in a game from a burnt disc. I like to use SMB or USB loader.

Hi i just got a ps2 from a friend who didn’t want it any more. I’m a PC baby so i don’t know how PS2 works but there is 1 game i can play really good. I cant find it anywhere so i downloaded it, wrote it with nero on a DVD but my ps2 doesn’t pick it up. It keeps giving me a red scream saying to insert a formatted ps2 disk, other DVDs work fine but not the one i copied. People on the internet tell me to make it formatted so my ps2 can read it! What should i do? I’m lost. I’m kinda a gaming freak. People think I’m weird because I’m a girl and i love COD and stuff like that. Please help me fix my game!!!!!
Vanilla PS2 can’t play the burnt game out of the box. You need a modding method. So what is your modding method?

Yes and no. What is your modding method? A PAL game is not going to work on a fat ps2 without a swap magic or FMCB.

wow! its me again. i cant get any to convert to “iso”. only “mdf” with “mds” or “bin” wit “que” and when i select to burn them, i cant select the mdf or the bin file which is the bigger file. i’m only gettin to select the small image file. any suggestion?

Impossible. A modded ps2 (softmod or hard mod) is what you need in the end. To think that a vanilla PS2 can play backed up games is a dream.

Naturally, you need to either softmod your ps2 or hardmod it. A vanilla ps2 off the shelf doesn’t magically run downloaded games.

Simple. Mount the ISO with virtual clone disc, or daemon tools, then rip.

Use a program called usbextreme. Now you can rip the game from the virtual cd-rom to your usb hard drive.

If you are smart, you make more than one partition. I have a 250GB external hard drive. I use 200GB for PS2 games, and then the remaining 50GB for personal files.
okay, a know it’s an old post but i have a little issue. I have a Ps2 With a exploited memory card to play “back ups”, but i’m having issues with some of the games, funny enough The Ratchet and Clank series. The first freezes on the cut scenes and loading screens a lot, the second one freezes at some part of the game and doesn’t recover and the third one just doesn’t work, at all. But other games work fine except for a display problem in one, the image is a little down on the screen in Naruto Shippuden UN 5. Anyways i’m starting to think it’s a burning issue. Can you shed a little light on the matter?
Burn all games at 4x or 6x on DVD+R or DVD-R.
umm see, i already did that, burned at 4x DVD-R didn’t try at 6x. At first i thought that the Ps2 is broken but other games work just fine and i burned them all the same.

Hi I have swap magic 3.8 and a slide card and Nero 11. I downloaded Soul Calibre 3 to make a back up of the game. I extracted the RAR file and it contained 2 files an ISO and MDS File. Do I just open Nero 11 Express > image, project copy> Disc Image or Saved Project. Then open the ISO file. Change my writing speed to 2.4x (the same speed as my DVD+R) then click burn? Will I then be able to play the dvd copy using swap magic and the slide tool?

i downloaded the Mortal Combat Armageddon ps2 game and after extracting the supressed file i didn’t get netiher .ISO file nor the other extension files you mentioned so i wanna know is that the bad torrent and is there a way to burn it with nero without the .iso file ?

not sure… i extracted “Mortal Kombat Armageddon (PS2_DVDRIP_ISO)-Freaky1.ISO” cause thats the only compressed file I downloaded, and after extracting i have some folders, and this files: GAMER.ovl , LOADING.RAW , mkda.pak, MOVIER.ovl , NETR.ovl , ntgui.elf , SLUS_214.10, SYSTEM
Don’t extract ISO, just burn it with IMGBurn!

All 1$ DVD works no problem.
However, now im trying to burn DVD
First i use Nero. After burning persona3.iso, it will leave a big chunk persona3.iso in my DVD. one file. My PS2 cant read it. OK
now im using DVD Decryptor. now i get LIB31, BGM.CVM, ZZZZ.bin, sles_55 , DATA.CVM, among other wierd files. My PS2 cant read it…..

If you have .ISO, burn it with IMGBURN and try again.
Hey i have tried this method of burning Dvd’s using Alcohol 120,DVd decrypter etc. but all i get on the screen is a black screen and sometime that messeage saying”insert PS or PS2 disk……” my PS2 is modded as have played pirated CD’s and now this particular CD has stopped working …..please help

Ask your friend to prove that it is chipped. I assume you burn the ISO at 4x or 6x, and it burnt successfully. If truly chipped, it should play your backed up game without any issues.
i bought swap magic 3.8 and modded my ps2 slim to block the sensors to swap games. i burned using dvd dycrypter and i burn them at 2x speed. so far only some of the games work and i cant figure out if im doing anything wrong or if its just a bad download

yes,the pirated one has silver coating.and about swapmagic or modchip I am not too sure as when i bought it i got it modded by the manufacturer and he confirmed that i can play any pirated game on to it and it is correct too,everything else works fine except the one i write which is downloaded frm torrent,but i would like to mention that it reads the dvd shows the first screen and then goes blank.the only difference is the pirated dvd has silver coating and mine is blue.I used sony 16x 4.7gb dvd.Please help

I got the iso from torrenz and randomly selected it and it may be faulty but dont know how to get confirmed as it got downloaded properly without any issues.could u suggest any way and it would be great if you can also help me with any site to get the running torrent.and thanks for you help so far.
Burn it, and then use Swap magic to load it. If you have modchip, it should just work. If you have SCPH-7XXXX or lower, you can play off of usb.

Your model does NOT play FMCB. Sony fixed the exploit for SCPH-90004. Sorry! You are best to run swap magic, or play backed up games since you have a modchip already.
