After waiting for 2 months, I finally got an invite but not from Google, but from a fellow Lifehacker reader. I had literally spent two weeks posting and trying to get an invite, with absolutely no responses. Last night I got an invite after two long months of waiting, and I am so eager to help the rest of you get onto the Google Wave bandwagon.

I will keep this short and simple. This is how it works:

1) Click the correct links below at the bottom of this blog post and fill out the form. Either you have a Google Wave invite and you can offer invites, or you are in need of one. Please make sure you type your e-mail correctly!
2) Every week I will review the list and see the demand for invites.
3) Over the course of time, I will literally have a list of people at my fingertips that I can send an email to asking for a Google Wave invite, and then I just take that Google Wave invite and forward it on to those who need it.
4) Those who received the invite are then put onto the master Google Wave “I can invite others” list. All of this is internal, and only I will suffer, not you.

I will not bore you guys with the details. If you are a L4D fan, you know exactly what this is. If you are (or aren’t) a L4D player and you don’t know what this campaign is, then let me fill you in.

Basically, this is a 5 year campaign that has finally come into reality. This is based off of the zombie movie Dawn of the Dead (2004) where a team of survivors are in a world full of zombies, and their goal is basically travel from town to town and survive.

A popular part of the movie is the “Crossroads Mall”, and man this team has nailed it right on in this campaign. Never have I seen daylight in a L4D map before, and with such great custom music, sharp textures, and randomized puzzles!  There are literally tons of easter eggs in this map, and to those who have donated some money to help with the developer’s computer get fixed have their name featured in the map.

Nonetheless, lets get to the more important stuff:

I missed doing weekly updates, and with a lot of stuff going on in my activities, I thought I will start bringing back these blog updates because there are easy to get out of the way, as well as let you guys know what I am thinking and what I have planned for the future.

In fact, I love writing these updates because it is really the only time I can vent or talk about a particular idea that is in formulation, so with that said let’s get started.

This article is going to be split up into two sections: gamer and non-gamer items.

Here are the gamer items:

On Halloween, the Dead Before Dawn campaign was released for L4D.  What does that even mean?  This is a custom campaign created for L4D that has been roughly 5 years in the making. What started out as a map for just Half Life 2 evolved itself into L4D and with a dedicated team working on it, it has been pushed back time after time again. Finally, it is here. I am testing it out tonight, so expect an article with links and some gameplay footage on it later this week.

Killing Floor does not want to die, and recently there was a 1009 update.  There are people having trouble with it, and it can be fixed with a new 1009 update repack fix. I will have the KF article at the tug.cjb.net site updated with the new links.

Borderlands: Great game. I have been playing it since Tuesday and beat it on Friday.  Awesome game, and will play it again either through the second walkthrough with a different character.  The end boss battle was just epic. Go to youtube and watch it yourself if you don’t care about playing the game. ;0  In short, it is like a mix of Fallout 3, Diablo, and First Person Shooter elements.  It really is badass game, and with DLC content planned for the future, we can definitely see some sequels coming.

Here are the non-gamer items:

Windows 7 was released on October 22nd.  How many of you guys are using it? I have been using some version of Windows 7 since the first beta last November, and  now it is finally here.

Bottom line: If you have XP, upgrade to it.  If you have Vista, please upgrade!  Windows 7 is by far the best OS out there. If you have lingering thoughts about Windows 7 as an XP user, then try doing a dual boot setup like I am. Sure, there is an XP virtual machine that you can get for Windows 7, but it is only available in the Ultimate version I do believe.

If you have a new Vista PC, you are entitled to Windows 7 for free. However, if you are looking for Windows 7 per other means, well…I am not sure if I can help you.  Your best bet is to see what deviant Hail2King wrote at http://tug.cjb.net on Windows 7 and see if that helps you with your digital journey.

In terms of future articles on the blog, I have quite a number of events in mind. This past weekend a local Blockbuster is going out of business.  DVDs for 9.99 or less, and even the store light fixtures are on sale! Now this is a true out of business sale!

I thought about this, and now with Netflix growing, and RedBox, as well as online video media for free (and illicit video downloads), I can see how Blockbuster is dying in the 21st century. I want to write an article about this as well as a spin as to how piracy and new technology is causing businesses such as Blockbuster to die.   Yet, Family Video is still doing well?  It’s all about the prices and consumer loyalty.  More to come.

Another topic I want to expand further is the idea of multi-tasking.  Whether it is at school, home, work, or wherever, there are bound to be lots of things in life that you are trying to find a balance. I have not found a balance yet, but I am slowly working my way towards that ultimate goal of pure nirvana where I am in control of my own time and what happens in my day.  It will be tough, because there are certain elements that are out of your control, but by recognizing what you have power over, it will help you become a better person and of course a master of your own domain.

One more last topic that I have been toying with the last few weeks is maintaining a better organizing system on my computer and external hard drive.  Right now I have literally program files, installers, music, movies, and whatever strewn across my desktop, laptop, and 2 external hard drives. I am working on my own personal system on how to make things tidy, and I wish to share my findings with you guys, as well as get tips on what you do to evolve the process.

It never is a done deal, as new ideas come along, but I love being a minimialistic person. I moved into a new house, and from the get go my number one goal is NO CLUTTER.  It makes the house look messy, and it just takes up space.  Similarly, I treat my PC the same way and I hate clutter.

You might be surprised to find out I do not have JAVA installed, and a few other programs that you might have already because I love running the PC lean as can be with little overhead.  Want to learn what I do so you can do the same?  That is a future article as well.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know. I really hate leaving the blog as is with very few articles, and I know there are a good number of you guys coming here expecting me or someone else to provide you that next idea that you never knew about.  Trust me, it is always in the back of my mind, and its just been hard lately finding the time to do what I love.

Ever since I got this game since Tuesday, I have been playing it non-stop each day and this game is great!  The Gearbox team is hard at work on a patch to fix some of the bugs, but overall the presentation is great and slick.

However, when playing the game you have no idea if the mission you are on is a main mission or a side mission. How much do you rely on technology today to get through your day?  Do you have an alarm clock?  Odds are it is digital, and it is programmable to wake you up at a certain time of day.

Now alarm clocks are getting sophisticated.  Take mine for example: It has a built in time synchronization in it where it can check the satellite in space and automatically adjust the clock time per my time zone. What is real cool is that if you unplug it, and then plug it back in it will automatically reconfigure itself, and it will even adjust itself for daylight savings time!  Even better, no need for 9Volt batteries to keep track of the time.

So where am I going with this?  As great as technology can be at times, it can work against you in times when you don’t realize.  This past week on Monday, I got up at 7am.  I pressed the snooze button a few times, and then finally got up and left for work at what I had believed was 8am according to my clock.

As I was about to leave, I noticed the clock on my stove said 8:50am. Wait, that’s weird. My bedroom clock said it was 7:50am.  It’s not daylight savings time yet, is it?  No, it could not have been because that is still at least a week away.

I checked my cell phone which I knew always had the correct time, and it showed 8:50am as well! Holy crap, I’m late for work!  Lucky for me, I live about 4 miles from work and I didn’t miss anything urgent within that hour away.

What happened to my clock?  Did it turn evil on me?  The night before when I went to bed it worked fine.  All I know right now is somehow it had self adjusted itself one hour behind and it was not even DST yet.

Yet, what would have happened if I had an important meeting at 8am?  If the clock had screwed me over on that day, then I’d look really bad.

Now I know this is a specific scenario, but below is a true story I had remembered reading about in a newspaper on where technology is going against the user.

Almost everyone has a cell phone, right?  You store all your contacts and other important information in there, right?  You would never ever expect to lose it because the cell phone is part of you, but guess what?  People lose cell phones all the time whether it is left behind on the plane, back set of a taxi car, or maybe just pure stolen.

Whatever the case maybe, I read a newspaper article about a woman who had lost her purse (and in it was the cellphone).  Did she leave it at the restaurant?  Taxi cab?  Library?  Bottom line was someone had it and she didn’t.  She called her husband from a pay phone to let him know she lost her belongings, but it was too late. Her family’s life just got turned upside down and I will tell you why.

Apparently on her cell phone, there was a contact named “Husband cell” or something similar to that effect.  The person who had swiped the cell phone was standing in front of an ATM, and deciding it might be worth a shot, sent a text message to the husband’s cell phone as below:

“Hey, I totally forgot the PIN number on our debit card.  Can you tell me what it is?

The husband who just thought it was the wife having a brain fart texted back with the PIN number.  The accomplice then proceeded to wipe out the entire debit account, which I believed was several thousand dollars.

Finally, the wife got in contact with the  husband to let him know that the cell phone was gone. The husband was surprised, as he said he just texted her from his cell phone to hers, and then that is when it dawned upon them that a person just robbed their debit account.

I forget what the conclusion was and if the family got protected by Visa, but the bottom line is something as simple as a cell phone (and poor security practices) can have technology work against you.

Have you ever lost anything important?  I sure did. In the summer of 2006, I was living by myself doing this Internship at Decatur, IL and I was living on the outskirts of downtown.

I lived in a three floor apartment, and I lived on the bottom floor. My living room is at ground level, so if the blinds are open, theoretically people can walk by and peek in to see what is inside the apartment.

Every Wednesday I went out around 6pm to go play softball with the coworkers.  I want to say that my next door neighbor across the hallway is not the most sophisticated neighbor.  There was a white guy with his girlfriend, and they were always arguing about whatever. The guy looked like a redneck, had tatoos, and clearly did not have a job.

Anyway, one day after I had came home from my softball game, I had noticed something familiar on the steps to the apartment in the parking lot.  Was that my black and white rug?

I picked it up, and god damn it was! I went downstairs almost tip toeing because I had an idea in the back of my mind as to what happened, but I hope to God it wasn’t true.

Ah crap! The lock to my back door was broken as the wood had splintered where the deadbolt goes into the door frame.  I cautiously walked in, getting ready to pump up the adrenaline 110% in case I found anyone in there.  Luckily, there was no one.  However, I noticed right away something was gone.

“Boys and their toys” as the old saying goes.  Well, my toys was my electronics, and the robbers ganked my PC, my CRT monitor (I was surprised they took this), my external hard drive, digital camera, speakers, and my DVD player. They were ever so kind to leave behind a brand new un-opened pack of 50 DVD+Rs and my old 13 inch CRT.

I just sat there and wanted to cry.  What really hit home even further was I had left my check book on the kitchen counter that morning, and of course it was gone.  I called the police, got everything written up, and had the landlord send out the repair guy to fix up my door.

You could say from that day onward I really hated my neighborhood, and the town I lived in.  On the flip side (surprisingly), it had forced me to execute and live better computer and technology practices.

The part that sucked the most was that I had bought a new video card 2 weeks previously and didn’t really have a chance to play with it!

Lucky for me, I didn’t have any personal information on my computer so no worries about identity theft, but I sure did a background check for months just to make sure nothing was signed out in my name.  It sure was scary times!

3) hi:P i have one problem. i had the fat ps2 and sold it yesterday to get ps2 slim instead. the new model actually with 2 sensors only (near the power button and near where the disc spins). my backups worked perfectly with the fat one. (I use swap magic) but with ps2 slim some of my games work, not all. but those which work the loading screen time is way to long. ive blocked the sensors correct but i dont know what to do:S i used swap magic for like 2 months with the fat and didnt have a problem

12) No I don’t have to use CloneCD as I never used it for any of the previous burns in first place since I had more .cue isos. All I used was Alcohol120%. And I did think about the laser being in its last days, but I had burned less than 10 (well, 7) successful back-ups in a row before I faced this problem. A 2008 hardware dying like this?

13) It can also play DVD movies just fine. Writing speed? The same as the one used for the successful burns, 48-52x. I remember very well you saying that PS2 ISO-s need to be burned at half the empty DVD-s max speed. These are all CD-s though.

What I don’t understand is why Alcohol tells me to check registry files, whereas ImgBurn (2nd pic) smth totally alien to me.

What my ignorant-on-PC stuff brain was thinking of is that the cause of the problem may be the fact that I installed too many programs like NeroEssentials and ImgBurn latest version ( which I have heard to be problematic http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=11206)

63) Sorry for bothering you again and again. well i wanted to share what i experienced.

(1) I prepared SM DVD and USB Advance CD-R as advised. i inserted SM DVD in my PS2 and it asked me to Insert a PS or PS2 format Disk.

(2) Then i ran PCSX2 0.96 on my laptop and inserted the same SM DVD and it worked. i again put it in PS2 and no message appeared this time and only Memory card icon was shown on the screen.

(3) i changed the BIOS of PCSX2 from USA to Japan and then loaded it, the same PS2 format disk message appeared. after that even USA bios was not able to run SM again. Now i am not sure what went wrong. Either i need a japan bios compatible SM? (as my PS2 version is 1.11 J) or else.

Conclusion:

The conclusion is that I answer a lot of frickin’ questions!  Now you understand partly why I can be busy at times. I answer on average 80-100 questions a week easily!

What is more interesting is that a lot of the questions revovle around PS2, tunngle, or how to use Garena! OMG, the garena questions! I sometimes wonder if tapping into that Garena community with killing floor and L4D was a mistake or not. :-0

Nonetheless, about 95% of the questions received have horrible grammar or misspelled words.  Seriously, how ghetto do you want to be?  Is it possible that those who type like that are kids or foreigners who don’t know English that well?

Actually, there were maybe 5-10 more questions late on Friday night that I didn’t bother adding to this list because I was getting too tired, but at least now I know for real on average how busy I am!

I hope this experiment opened your eyes.  This stresses the importance of not being a tool, and learning how to use the Internet. Some day I will get burned out and I will say “Screw it. You use google. I am not your relative google anymore!”.

The underground has been here for quite some time now and have helped many people.
Although helping them in text format is all good and well and with the new Underground e-book coming out why stop there? and why not expand our horizons a little? or.. a lot?

Proposition #1
The Underground official chatroom and i dont mean this like skype where you might talk to one Underground member. But I mean something like ventrilo where the underground members can login and join the room and get troubleshooted through there or just have a talk, start a few games why not? i mean im sure by now the Underground members are well aware of tunngle by now thanks to VersatileNinja i feel that this idea will help promote the Underground for what it does but help a lot more people in a simpler environment although i have not ran this idea through anyone this is why this blog is here.

As i hope you are aware of a program called logmein although i bet this idea will be shun and not taken seriously but hear me out.
This program brings troubleshooting to a whole new level and long with a chat function from the Proposition above getting help couldnt be easier with an underground member guiding you through what you do though with logmein or taking over the operation entirely

I believe this may cause some people to worry about some security issue’s im sure in a community like this that should not be a problem ( also in logmein you can block the remote user taking control and let them observe and guide you through).

I use this system of logmein and a voice chat (skype) and i find it makes the process infinitely easier and a lot quicker than the regular text base help.

After some visits to Infinity Ward’s public discussion forum, I discovered that the outrage in the PC community is not at all exaggerated. It’s just about here! October 22nd is the release of the new operating system from Microsoft. I’ve been running the RTM version for quite a while now that was on the Technet networks, but I will definitely be getting a new copy of Windows 7 very soon.

I’ve run all the betas since last November, and I am psyched that the new OS is almost here.  I can’t believe it.  It really is the successor to Vista, so that begs the question:  Why would you even buy Vista now that Windows 7 is here?  Well…you don’t!

Are you getting Windows 7?  If not right away, then when?  I will be installing it for sure along with my Windows XP (only to run some nit picky XP programs although I may have to try this new XP virtual machine software).

It’s been awhile since I have last written, and this time around I thought I am going to be something I have never done before, which is a social experiment of sorts.

Every day people are asking questions, are you one of them?  Were you at school and you asked someone a question on how to do a certain problem?  Maybe you asked your teacher for help on a particular subject or clarification?

Were you at work and you had a question on what the customer wanted?  A question on your latest bill statement?  Life is full of questions.  However, over the course of time, it becomes obvious that some questions or conceptions just never go away or die.

As we all know, I am a very busy person.  I get home from work, and my time is limited to do a few tasks before I have to go to bed and then repeat the whole cycle the next day.  With that said, about 70% of my free time (maybe more or less depending on what happens that day) is related to answering questions about a diverse group of subjects.

How many questions is too many questions?  It’s time to find out in my little experiment.  Beginning today through the end of day Friday, I will be documenting and collecting every single question that is directed to me.

It can be a simple question on Youtube on my video, an e-mail, a comment here on the blog, or even in an instant messenger.  I am going to harvest every single question and collect it day by day groupings.

On Saturday, I will post the massive list of questions here on the blog for all of you to see. I don’t expect much of it to make sense, because I am just collecting questions, but I will put the questions in a topic header to separate questions from one to the other.

With that said, I am going to put up a new poll and lets see how many questions I am going to get between today and end of day Friday.  Will it be ten questions, 50, 100, 500?  We will soon find out!
