My Insights on Halo3 and COD4 MP

Okay, so I have sampled multiplayer from Call of Duty 4 and it’s got some tricks.
You can:
-Call in air strikes.
-Find people with the radar/map.
-Lay down/crawl.
-The ability to shoot through wooden walls/objects with higher calibers.
-Chuck a grenade back at your opponent(if you’re fast enough)
-Near death state which you can still shoot.

I’ve played games like this before and while some of the ideas are pretty cool, there are more than a few complaints I have with it.
1-The airstrikes unbalance it especially the helicopters.
2-You have to move slower and make yourself a target to aim your weapon.
3-You have to stand in front of an open door to throw a grenade in it. (yes I know you have to do it in halo as well).
4-On the right map, people who lay on the ground can just murder their opponents.
5-With radar on, you know EXACTLY where your opponents are.
6-With radar off, you have to have nearly perfect vision unless they walk directly in front of you.
7-Running only gets you dead faster.
8-Grenade throw stinks.
9-You have to sit down and read a manual just to know how to play.
10-Unless you shoot them in the head, they aren’t dead right away and can fire back.
11-Death cams (Why do I want to watch my killer’s POV?)
12-No vehicles to ride in!

I like to be able to point and shoot, not have to do something that will make me move slower and reduce my sight. I know that sniper and br limit vision, but at least they don’t make me move slower. I like being able to jump in a hog/mongoose and depending on what I do I can throw off the balance of the fight. Just go on a splatter spree or just act goofy and get the enemy’s attention while my buddies get into position. To get more weapons or ammo, I have to loot the corpse of my enemy? What happens if I run out of ammo and all of his buddies are standing next to his corpse? I die is what, and I would prefer the option to be able to get more weapons or ammo, or pull a strategic withdrawal.

The structures had no landmarks that could be simple to remember. In halo 3, “I’m pinned at Froman!” is all the info your team needs to know where you are and where some of the enemy are. When we played Call of Duty 4, it was, “I’m in a room!” “There are boxes!” I also called in a helicopter strike and watched as I racked up enemy kills with no actual effort on my part. You can hide in a building and call in for the entire enemy team to be wiped out with no chance of reprisal.

Now onto Halo 3:
-mancannons
-hornets (AWESOME!!!)
-mongoose
-sniper rifle that requires skill
-Large market for DLC
-Forge
-Infection playlists
-NO MORE NOOB COMBO!!!!! YAY!!!
-portable turrets
-THE RETURN OF THE ASSAULT RIFLE!!! Now when out of ammo, you can assault someone with it!
-the shotgun and needler are to be feared!!!

There are also some big negatives to point out in Halo

One big point is that on maps like Epitaph and Snowbound there are shied doors placed around the map. These doors promote camping with weapons such as shotgun and mauler. There is a counter to this camping though. All you have to do is just hang around the top of the bases with sniper and battle rifle and wait for them to come out. The only flaw to this strategy is that if the opposing team has the lead all they would have to do is have the nerve to sit in ah-mazing protected room for the rest of the round.

Another negative which I am not directly affected by but i know many others are is the fact bungie had worked hard to make the game with the least amount of glitches possible. They have done a good job on this and I am personally happy but i know for a fact that a lot of the glitching community is disappointed.

Overall I feel these are two VERY GREAT games. Remember these are just MY opinions. I’m sure that some of you out there disagree with me but this isn’t the place to flame. If you would like post your insights or disagreements but withhold from flame please.

  1. After reading this blog review on the game, i feel the need to Public Service Announcement for the promotion of abortions. not in doctor’s offices, but more like a stiff kick in the gut with a good solid steel toed boot. Just think. if you dad had the common decency to wind up, and kick your mom in the gut, 3 months in, i wouldn’t have had to waste my time reading your drivel. You make no point whatsover, and I wish a fiery car crash on you, on your way to a loved ones wedding.

    Love
    Vic

  2. Wow, so that is how you roll. I guess this author messed up bad this time.

  3. first off, this is NOT a review of the game.
second, pay more attention next time. the title is: My INSIGHTS On Halo 3 and COD 4. This is opinion based but not necearily a review of the game.
third, the point is a comparision of the game, not a review on the games.

    thats all

  4. Nice blog. I largly agree with you. My thoughts:

    COD4
    Pros:
    – Realistic (few shots kill, etc)
    – Level up and start off w/ favorite weapons.
    – Weapons are balanced. There isn’t one weapon that pwns all.
    – Sneaking, hiding, etc are solid strategies.

    Cons:
    – My eyes get tired from trying to see the enemy before they see (and kill) me.
    – I feel luck is more important than skill (might be because I’m not very good). Seems like most of my kills come when I get to flank and shoot someone who doesn’t see me. Same thing with my deaths though.
    – The maps are crazy w/o landmarks as you said
    – I’ve played for hours, and I’m still not sure what the correct strategy for each map is. It just seems like chaos.

    Halo 3
    Pros
    – Skill >>> luck. I get a few lucky kills and a few unlucky deaths, but for the most part I feel that skill played a huge role in my success or failure
    – Bright colors. I’m never straining my eyes to try to find someone laying in the grass.
    – Weapon mismatches. This is huge on strategy/skill. It’s easy to see what weapon your opponent is using (in COD4 you’re dead before you figure out what weapons is being used). Example, if I have a Battle Rifle and I see that my opponent has a shotgun, we both immediately know what we want to do to win. These match ups can be a blast and play out like a chess match.
    – Vehicles!!!!

    Cons
    – Fewer maps

I don’t know. Halo 3 is just awesome. COD4 is very good. Maybe if I figure out the COD4 strategy more I’ll like it better, but I honestly spend more time being frustrated than having fun.

  5. Kurt, I commend you for your comment efforts. I am vastly impress. Please see sidebar for a nomination of congratulation.

  6. nicely done. I feel that in COD 4, yes, it is really REALLY tough to see the enemy.

  7. Of course its harder to see enemies…its called camouflage you retards.

  8. Both games were designed for, and played by, gamers who don’t suck at life…

  9. captain, first off, if you understood anything about gaming, you would understand that the camo makes it less fun. and because of the high graphics, it is really tough because you can actually see the smoke and darkness in the true sense.

and the point is that its harder to see enemies, NOT why.

  10. “You have to stand in front of an open door to throw a grenade in it.”

What does this mean? Do you have a problem with the fact that in order to throw something through an opening, you have to be in front of it, or do you have a problem with the fact that you can’t throw a grenade through a closed door? Either way you’re retarded. Actually, now that I think about it, you can’t even see through the doors unless they are open. That’s dumb.

“You have to sit down and read a manual just to know how to play.”

And you accuse Captain Obvious of not understanding gaming? Once again, this is a “problem” because you aren’t smart. Also, I prefer reading the manual standing.

“I like being able to jump in a hog/mongoose and depending on what I do I can throw off the balance of the fight. ”

LOL.. You’re the idiot who gets in the mongoose? It throws off the balance because your team is now playing a man down. Let me know how it goes trying to rack up kills splattering people in the mongoose.

I award you zero points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

  11. Retardoman, you can have your opinion. However, you arent someone actually writing, and being critized. Remember that for the future.

if you want to read the manual standing, great for you. however, its easy to see that you don’t understand the points he is trying to make.
Also, about the door, don’t talk until you actually know something useful. in fact, if you don’t know anything (which is what it looks like), don’t say anything. if you can’t think, or don’t want to, don’t say anything either. Maybe it would be useful to throw a nade through the window? maybe it would be nice to have some more realistic nade physics when you angle a throw through the door? ever use your head?

and the hog/mongoose is part of the game for a reason. just because you can’t utilize part of the game does NOT mean that we aren’t going to. If you can’t use a hog properly, then “sucks to your assmar.”

May God have mercy on my soul, I certain hope. But I really wish that Satin, Beelzebub, or whatever you want isn’t very harsh on yours.

  12. Hey Voltaire. You’re ugly and your mother dresses you funny.

    Peace out.

  13. It’s spelt Satan Voltaire. Satin is a fabric.

I think overall that Worms Armageddon is a better game than any of these games will ever be. Why? I could make an entire post to answer that question, but suffice to say, it’s far less likely you’ll get a stupid argument started over it 😀

  14. lol. Those of you reading my post there, I really hope you understand what I wrote to the level I wrote it at, or any comments you make are null and subject to deletion/ban at discretion

  15. Halo3 online takes repetition, conditioning, and a good internet connection to master.
CoD4 online requires a steady aim, an understanding of your opponent, and skill to master.
    nuff said.
    But heres more anyway:
    My response to your “insight”…
1-The airstrikes unbalance it especially the helicopters. (If you are experiencing an unbalance due to air support, you have not yet learned how to find cover. That, or your opponent is having this problem. Plus, you can always turn off air support for any match.)
2-You have to move slower and make yourself a target to aim your weapon. (In what FPS can you see an enemy when it isn’t possible for them to see you? [Excluding invisibility buffs]. “If your enemy is in range, then so are you”. Also, it’s not necessary to “aim” your weapon, it just increases your accuracy. I get just as many frags from firing from the hip as I do from aiming. Just because you can’t “no scope” with every shot in CoD4 doesn’t mean a sniper rifle is useless.)
3-You have to stand in front of an open door to throw a grenade in it. (yes I know you have to do it in halo as well). (ummmm, you can “bounce” nades off of ANY surface in CoD4.)
4-On the right map, people who lay on the ground can just murder their opponents. (I have played against hundreds of different opponents with various levels of experience, and I have not once seen this occur. Whether because nobody would let that happen, or because nobody is that stupid, is still up for debate.)
5-With radar on, you know EXACTLY where your opponents are. (CoD4 uses a similar mechanic as Halo. The difference being that where Halo will show your position if you are running or firing, CoD4 will only show your position when you’re making “noise”. Silencers and crouch-walking/crawling negate radar presence, as well as UAV Jammer [unlockable perk]. After a short kill streak a player is allowed to use his UAV Radar to pinpoint every enemy on the map [excluding those with the UAV Jammer perk]. You can use the options to easily turn off the radar for any match.)
6-With radar off, you have to have nearly perfect vision unless they walk directly in front of you. (Of course in halo3 we all know exactly where our enemies are without radar right? Well, at least the conditioned ones do. CoD4 has reinvented the way sound plays a role in a FPS. If you turned off your Cyndi Lauper for 5 minutes you would realize that. Try listening. Plus, I play on a 24″x19″ screen, and I have next to no problems seeing what I should be seeing.)
7-Running only gets you dead faster. (It will if you don’t know where your running. Again, sound is powerful to those that know how to use it. And running into your enemy is just asking to be fragged.)
8-Grenade throw stinks. (Grenades do not explode as quick as they do in Halo, thank god. No more last second ‘nade drops before death. There is a perk that will drop a live grenade upon death, but the timer is more than enough to get out of the way in time. Plus, you can always “cook” a grenade before you throw them. Plus, grenades that land right near you can be “tossed” back to the thrower. Also, the max distance a grenade is thrown shouldn’t be that important. if you’re ‘nading from across the level, then you don’t deserve your ‘nades.)
9-You have to sit down and read a manual just to know how to play. (Or, you can choose to do what most gamers do, and play through the first few levels of a single player game to learn the buttons and control configurations. Oh, I forgot, nobody played SP in the Halo universe. Well, guess your all screwed then.)
10-Unless you shoot them in the head, they aren’t dead right away and can fire back. (hmmmm, if a FPS has one-shot kills with ANY weapon, then why would it have weapon diversity? Plus, you should learn to aim for the head, just like in Halo.)
11-Death cams (Why do I want to watch my killer’s POV?) (Why wouldn’t you? Knowing how and why you died is the best way to learn how to survive.)
12-No vehicles to ride in! (Vehicles were basically a blessing AND a curse in the Halo series, and although they could be fun, it was completely pointless to use them unless it was for an objective match. Vehicles made decent turrets for covering fire, but a good stationary turret could do the same. Also, having the option to “sprint” in CoD4 makes traversing the maps a breeze without the clumbsiness of “mounting” and “dismounting” vehicles.)

QQ about a game that you obviously haven’t fully experienced.
Do not post “insight” about games that you obviously do not plan to fully experience.
Leave the “insight” to those that will judge a game without bias, and with respect.
Do not respond to this because it is an automated post (duh!) and I will not read your responses. X*(
Also, any grammatical errors adn typo;s were 100% purposeful. So flame about them if you wish, but your not saying anything that isn’t already fucking obvious.

  16. Burn. Automated or not, you are definitely this week’s number 1 recognized underground individual.

  17. nice post there sigh.
    I have a few counters
    first:
“If your enemy is in range, then so are you”
that is completely inaccurate. suppose i have a sniper rifle, and you have a shotgun. you’re the enemy, and in my range. i, on the other hand, probably will not be.
“Also, it’s not necessary to “aim” your weapon, it just increases your accuracy. ”
I have to disagree. the only time I saw not aiming actually work was in some downloadable game and only a few times in Halo. why? hey, throwing nades randomly can hit. aiming is kind of the point of the game, if you spray, chances are you will miss unless the other guy is a nub.
“If you turned off your Cyndi Lauper for 5 minutes you would realize that. Try listening.”(on locating ppl w/o radar)
well, i play tons of Halo without sound and i think that radar can help sometimes with location. Just as well, i havent played much COD4 lol.
“Oh, I forgot, nobody played SP in the Halo universe. Well, guess your all screwed then.”
hey, that in no case is true! the true part might be that we don’t complete the thing, but hey, i know that i got thru the first few levels and i know ppl who finished the game :P.

and hey, i agree with you 100%. jaws didnt really do that great of a job.
but look at the post date. roughly around the same time as both games came out.
so, for the push, ty Jaws.
and for the record, its his insight 😛

finally, if your automated, how the hell can you pull quotes from the post?

  18. I like how people love to bash Jaws for an article that is very poorly written.

We must remember that Jaws is a poorly minded individual too. 😛

  19. yes lol, but is it truly a fair bashing?
i would agree but he did push it out RIGHT after the games both came out.

that can entail a LOT of different reasons for the poorness

  20. having come from 5 yrs playing halo online i found cod4 mp tough at first…but great fun.

    tips for cod4:

    reload after each firing..
    srint when not in cover
use jump/crouch method for close enconters
learn the maps and more importantly learn the spawn spots (stops ya dyin do much :P)
every corner and every doorway is a threat…be ready.
    use ur knife..
campin will get u a kill or 2 but will get u killed (and noone likes campers on a ffa server…wanna camp? go play team deathmatch.)
avoid servers with 30 or more players as the maps r far too small to support this many ppl and is just a campin noobfest

    great game. hours of fun.

Halo3….cant really comment as only played co-op on m8s 360. tbh pc ftw..consoles cant compete.

    Peace.

btw… these tips r for ffa. diff tact is needed for diff gametypes.

  21. Rofl.. guys u saying CoD4 is bad… lol i got to lvl 50 on halo in 3 different things in a week or 2. The GAME IS POINT LESS NOT HARD TO LVL AT ALL! I have been on halo teams peace of cake.. but i played on 1 account on call of duty and 10th prestige lvl 55( AKA:highest you can go) The game actually takes skill to kill someone. At first my friend said Cod4 sucked untill he started playing and actually gave him a challenge. HAlo 3 “C’mon guys lets unload 2 whole clips into a dude before he dies!!” or “lets shoot purple needles at a guy that follow him!!!!!

  22. I love COD4. It is a blast to play.
