[How To] Burn a PS2 Game (From Torrent) To DVD Using DVD Decrypter
Foreword: As you go through this tutorial, some people may question whether or not this is legal to do, which is make backups of your PS2 games. Well, here is the short story of it all. If you own a store bought game, you can make a backup copy of it. The DMCA may say otherwise, but it all boils down to fair right usage. If you make a copy of that retail game and sell the copy, then that is piracy and illegal.
If you download a PS2 game in which you do not own a retail version, then that is piracy again. Follow the law. Play by the rules. Play with a conscience mind. The Underground Staff does not support piracy, and neither should you. Thank you. ~ Versatile

Introduction
Did you know you can make backups of your PS2 games (for legal purposes of course) to preserve your original game? Well, yes you can. What do you do if your favorite game has gotten scratched up over the years? Do you want to go out and buy another copy of it? Oh wait, Gamestop doesn’t have that game anymore? What are you going to do?
Have you considered Torrents?
Wait, what are torrents? In short, it is a small table of contents file called a “torrent” and you use it with a “torrent client” program. From here, it will download the required files from other people online who are sharing the file for the online community.
Unfortunately, this article is not meant to be about torrents but rather show the user how to take a PS2 game that they got from a torrent, extract it from the Winrar files, and burn the ISO file using DVD Decrypter.
If you are unfamiliar with torrents, please read our excellent guides below first and then come back here:
[How To] Use Bittorrent – Utorrent
Guide for Better and Safer Torrenting
Assumptions (makes it easier for the rest of the tutorial)
1) You have some kind of RAR file extractor. Examples include Winrar (shareware), and 7-zip (freeware)
2) You have Winrar or equivalent program configured properly. More specifically, the program does not see your ISO file as an extractable file.
For a guide on Winrar and not making this mistake, see the guide below:
[How To] Make WinRAR Not Recognize ISO Files
3) Your PS2 is modded via swap magic, modchip, or perhaps an exploited memory card. To learn more about PS2 modding, see the guide below:
[Novice Guide] How to Get Started with PS2 and Backups
4) You have a DVD burner, and a spindle of blank DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs.
5) You have read this guide on DVD class media. This is very important for a successful and readable disc for the PS2.
[How To] Determine DVD Class Media
6) You have DVD decrypter. Get it from here.
7) You have a passion to learn. You know how to use the computer, and you have DVD Decrypter installed. You may not be tech savvy, but you are willing to try out new things. If you are stuck, please leave a comment!
Tutorial Starts Here
Step 1. Go to your favorite torrent site, and using your torrent program (I use utorrent) download a PS2 game. If you reside in the United States, make sure you download the NTSC version. If you get a PAL game, it will not work on your TV because it will flicker due to the refresh rate of the TV. NTSC games have 60 Hz refresh rate, but PAL games have 50 Hz refresh rate.
Step 2. Most often than not, the PS2 game you download will comprise of multiple RAR files. Select the first RAR file, right click and extract it.
Step 3. Once your game is extracted, you should have an .ISO file. Now open up your dvd decrypter program. Go to Mode > Iso > Write. Insert a blank DVD+R or DVD-R. It is recommended that DVD-R is used because of better compatibility with PS2 laser, but I have DVD+R work fine so it shouldn’t be an issue.
Step 4. Your screen should look like the one below now. Make sure to set the write speed to half the max rated speed of your blank DVD-r or DVD+r. For instance, if your DVD disc max write speed is 16X, put your burner speed setting at 8X.
Step 5. Now the game should be burning to the DVD.
Step 6. After a few minutes (depending on the speed of your DVD burner), DVD Decrypter is complete! Now use your favorite PS2 modchip device and it will work on your PS2.
If the game does not work, then there are two things that need to be done.
1) Use a different disc. Maxell DVDs are notorious for not being great DVDs. The PS2 laser is very picky as to what it can and cannot read. Many people suggest in getting Tao Yuden DVD’s but those are sometimes pricey. You can get by with better brands like Verbatim, Sony, and TDK to name a few.
2) Make sure the game is burnt correctly.

I Dloaded burnout 3 as torrent….. the game works fine but i cant save d game…… it initially reads d memory card and ask wer i would lyk 2 save PROFILE 1 ,PROFILE 2 or profile 3……then when i choose an option it says file creation error and says no memory card available….. but d card works fyn for other games……..
I’m not sure why it does that. I have a copy of burn out 3 and I can save games fine to the memory card.
I wonder if the game is just a bad rip perhaps?
The same thing also happens for another game i downloaded…… the game is syphon filter… when i try 2 save it says file creation error and goes in2 a never ending loop……and burnout is the MORGUE version……..
Also i am using PLEOMAX DVD+RW’s……..
Do not use DVD+RW or DVD-RW at all. These will destroy the laser.
I have syphon filter and there is no issue with it.
Of all the games you have, how many fail to save to memory card? How about you format the memory card and start fresh?
I never seen a game have issues with saving game files to a memory card before.
These are the only two games that fail….. all other games save properly……….
hey got a problem. after i extract the rar file it will change into an .iso file right?
then do i have to burn that .iso file using decrypter?
Burn the .ISO file with whatever program you are comfortable with.
so do i like extract the first rar file out of the 16 i have downloaded or do i select all of them at once and extract them.there is also a .srv file and a .nfo file.
Extract only the first RAR file.
cant seem to extract it.first of all there are in alap-dgr.001 and not in rar.when i extract that i get a rar and when i extract the rar i get the alap thing.what do i do?
It seems to be going around in circles. Give me a link to what you are downloading.
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4445482/Avatar_The_Last_Airbender_Into_The_Inferno-PS2DVD-USA-DAGGER
Please read the .nfo file with wordpad and see what the instructions are. If you are really stuck, I’ll get this game and write a tutorial on the methods.
I figured it out. Use 7-zip. Right click on the .001 and tell it to extract here. Now you will get the ISO file.
hey man got the iso file.just have to burn it to a dvd.had bought a sony dvd-r but couldnt read on any of my laptops so will buy a new dvd and check.will tell you if the process works.thanks for all the help so far.
ive got the iso file will tell u later if i have any problems
hey my laptop cant read dvd -r so what should i use
should i use dvd rws?
because it works well on the ps2 and can be read on my laptop
DVD-RWs are not supposed to be used with PS2. The DVD-RW puts a very heavy strain on the PS2.
How about using DVD+R?
i dont know i mean dvd-r didnt work on my laptop which has rw drve so i dun thnk a dvd+r will work.can u please find out if it will work on a rw drive
RW drives by default should be able to read and write to both DVD-R and DVD+R. Perhaps your dvd burner is an older model?
Check your model, then go to google and see what it can burn to.
lol no that is not the problem.ok i will tell u what happens.when i insert the dvd-r in my laptop nothing appears. in other words my dvd doesnt even show.its not even in My computers
It could be the fault of the DVD drive. Do you have another PC?
no i dont
Are we sure you have a DVD burner that can read blank DVD discs?
well i have dvd decrypter and i dont see how that can affect it
I do. If you don’t have a DVD burner, then you won’t be able to burn to DVDs. So answer the question: How sure are you that you have a DVD burner? 100% sure or 0% sure?
well my dvd burner is dvd decrypter if thats what u want to know. i think i will go for 50 percent
Hi. Can anyone tell me what does “Now use your favorite PS2 modchip device and it will work on your PS2.” means? (in step 6) I don’t know what a mod chip device is, and am I going to need that in order to play the burned ps2 game? Thanks in advance.
I suggest you look into swap magic. Search my blog for “swap magic” and learn.
and one more thing, is it ok to burn PS2 games onto DVD+RW and play them on PS2? Thanks
NO! Do not use DVD+RW, it ruins your laser!
man that is a good video but i didn’t get the last part can u tell what is it or tell how to spell so i can look for it
DVD decrypter?
Can you please explain what the heck is a PS2 Modchip?
A modchip is something you can put into a PS2 to make it run copied games. Times have change, and now you can do it without voiding your warranty using a soft mod method called swap magic.
Search the blog for “swap magic” and learn.
um…i have a question what do the swap magic and mod chip does? im kinda new… so i dont quite understand…after i burned it…what next?
Search blog for “swap magic” and learn.
after burning this cant i play right away in my ps2??
No, you need swap magic or a mod chip.
Will Slide card work the same as swap magic?
No, you need them both for fat ps2.
Well…if you need slide card & swap magic, what do I do if I have a slim ps2?
With the slim PS2, you need to block all 3 sensors on the Slim PS2. You can buy the magic key tools, or make your own blocking tools out of thin cardboard like a cereal box, or use a straw.
Search the blog, there is an article on the slim ps2 and swap magic.
hii i need help i downloaded two different ps2 games but they dont work after i burn the iso i am using dvd+rand dvd decryter so i do not no wat is wrong plz help
You have mod chip or swap magic?
Hey Versatile, do you play Hogs of War?
Never tried it. From the looks of it, I prefer the Worms series better.
yes i do
Josh, can you play online?
Oops, never mind josh. My question still to Versatile about Hogs of War.
plz help i downloaded the games and i extracted them and then i burned the iso but they still dont work
Can you explain to me how to work with swap disc ?
Thx
Search blog for swap magic.

Hi. I recently bought an old game (Crash Team Racing for PS1). It works perfectly on my PS2, but the problem is that I can’t save my game. I have a PS2 memory card, but I insert the memory card into the slot, nothing happens. Any suggestions on what I should do? [HELP!!!]
You need a PS1 memory card.
so….when I get PS1 memory card then will I be able to save my progress in the game? And another question: Why won’t the PS1 game recognize or save the game on the PS2 memory card ?
It is the way the PS2 was designed. PS1 games DO NOT save to PS2 memory cards.
Hi, I followed your tutorial and my ps2 doesn’t recognize the dvd with my iso on it. I have a modchip installed and there were no problems in the burning process, except when I put the disc into the ps2, the red screen comes up and the game doesn’t boot. I’m using a Sony DVD+R, and my ps2 runs other pirated games just fine. Help! Thanks in advance.
What class media are your discs?
Sony DVD+R.
No, what I mean is it 1st class, 2nd class, 3rd class?
Hmm. How do I check?
Hey I’ve tried on two different computers both with dvd burners, and D.O.N and other games wouldn’t work so I’m guessing it’s the DVD. It’s a Dynex DVD-r…are these bad DVD’s? If yeah, what are good ones? Some you can get a BestBuy…and are there any differences in burning to a dvd-r and dvd+r? When I tried to load the game via swap magic cd 3.6, it goes to a black screen and stays there as the cd keeps spinning, also im using a flip top for pstwo
OMG, DYNEX? That is horrible!!!!!
Use Verbatim or Sony. Watch my guide here:
Versatile, you seem to be the “One” to ask about PS2 games.
I recently (albeit late) purchased a copy of Syphon Filter-Omega Strain (UK version). The game plays well on my brand new PS2 slim (SCPH 90004), but does not save games onto my PS2 memory card (SCPH 10020 GB). It keeps throwing up an error like “saving failed.” All my other games save properly. I really like this game. But without the save function, the only option I have is to play for as long as possible and cover as much ground in a go (that’s like hours on end) and then “quit” unwillingly.
Is there a solution to this problem. I have tried looking for help on several other communities, but they were futile. Hope you have an answer. Thanks in advance 🙂
Do you have an official sony 8MB ps2 memory card? Lets start there.
Yes, mine is an official sony8 MB memory card, model SCPH 10020 GB
I think, theSyphon Filter Omega Strain save game file, is just 100 KB or less.
But ill take this guess .. are u sure that there is sufficient empty space in your MC ..
There’s enough and more of space on the card…. it still doesn’t save
What exactly does the game say, when u try to save ??
It just keeps throwing up an error like “saving failed.” ??
Be more precise and say what it exactly says .. : )
Oh but there is another possibility, Do u have corrupted files on your Memory Card..
and if u did, check whether u have any corrupted ‘syphon filter’ save files…
keep in mind, that Some corrupted files are unerasable …
hey i dont know which of the extracted files i should burn
i am having the following files with me now-
1)DBZ3_SLUS_21678- ISO FILE
2)DBZ3_SLUS_21678- MDS FILE
3)READ ME- TEXT DOCUMENT
4)JPEG IMAGE
helloooooooooooo versatile please give me a reply pleeeeeeeeease
Burn the ‘DBZ3_SLUS_21678- ISO FILE’ !!
Make sure you use a first class DVD media. And burn it with DVDdecrypter or IMGburn.
Hi, I’m using DVD Decrypter and I’m having a few problems. I am using Sony DVD-R’s to write a PS2 Iso of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix but whenever I try to do so I get this Message:
I/O Error!
Device [0:0:0] LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S BGS4 (E:)(ATA)

Here are some Pictures.
What can I do so my Iso’s will burn to the DVD-R’s? I’ve already tried other discs and Iso’s but I get the same thing each time.
By the way I’ve also tried Nero and IMGBurn and it won’t let me either.
I have a suspicion. First of all, have you burnt any other game in the past and have they worked? If this Kingdom Hearts final mix is a special ISO you downloaded, then ALL bets are off. I have seen people having issue with this game, and I cannot help with that.
I suspect the ISO was ripped and corrupted somehow. I do not know how to fix this game.
Another thought is you need to update the firmware on your DVD burner. The last solution is your dvd drive is nearing the end of its life, so maybe try a different dvd burner?
This is my first time that I have started burning Iso’s ever. I decided to try two other Iso’s I’ve downloaded and neither worked. I get a message that says Cannot write medium Incompatible format. I tried to update the firmware and it frustrated me because though it reads the CD-R I’ve burned it doesn’t do anything and exits. I know for a fact my burner isn’t dying because I can write CD-R’s perfectly and I’ve barely used it during the time I’ve had it. It definitely burns DVD-R and DVD+R because I can see it on the computer, it only seems to not write DVD-R because I tried a different brand and the same thing happened. I think that perhaps though my burner says it burns DVD-R’s… it doesn’t. How can I try a different DVD burner? My computer only has 1
Maybe your DVD is already formatted ? (accidentally)
I/O errors are possible when that happens !
So, try burning the Image on another DVD.
I tried like maybe 5-8 DVD-R’s got same “cannot write medium” message for each. =/
The real question is what formats does your CD/DVD burner support? Search google for an answer.
Yup. It definit-ely burns DVD-Rs. I feel so frustrated. I think I might just borrow a friend’scomputer and ask if I can borrow it to burn my Isos.
i am downloading fifa street2…it has many .rar files…here is the link

hi I tried to burn a ps2 game crazy golf tour its a bin image of 159mb so I tried to burned it into a moserbeer cd-r and when it was burning an error came cant read the bin file please answer versatile
Is it possible the BIN file is corrupted? Try a different game.
Hi versatile i have been spending two days trying to find an answer. after following your steps but using imgburn to write my downloaded fifa 10 .mdf (which includes .mds and .mdf and tried writing both even creating a .iso but same prob occurs) into a sony DVD-R and then inserted to PS2 the red screen appears. whats wrong? and my ps2 could play pirated disc but not this, why? PLEASE HELP ME OUT!
What dvd class is your blank media? What is your MODCHIP?
Sony 16D1 made in m’sia which is 2nd class media to burn the .mds, The modchip i am not sure, but ps2 can play pirated games… and i have also use a verbatim MCC03RG20(first class media) to burn the .iso but red screen still appears. Hmm, any idea??
and maybe this could help, my ps2 model is SCPH-39006 should be a v8 ps2 from japan
Question: Have you ever gotten a game that you burnt to play successfully on your PS2? You say you have pirated games that work. Did you buy those games? What is the color of the dye on the disc? Purple? Silver?
Nope, first time burning. Yes i bought those pirated games, and some of those colour is silver and some is gold, both work perfectly.
What color is your blank disc? Do me a favor. Do a copy of one of those pirated games, a direct copy using dvd decrypter. Then see if the PS2 will play that copy. If it does not, then that means you need to look into a different type of blank disc.
blank disc is purple, okay i will try now, and tell you the outcome
Hey, i tried already, still red screen appear. so must i get a golden bottom DVD R in order to play? where can i get them?
Or try a different brand. Sony, Memorex, TDK.
