Portable Photoshop CS2 [XP Tested][Legal]

Hey, do you use Adobe Photoshop CS2? Do you ever wish that you could carry this nifty program around, or at least shrink it? Well, now you can! Thanks to the forums at PortableApps.com, there is a way to cut the program down to 26 mb from its almost 300 mb size!

This part is entired quoted from the forums at PortableApps.com:

Portable Adobe Photoshop CS2 v9.0 (26 MB) Project

Submitted by aniperleo on April 11, 2006 – 1:51am.

Creating a legitimate, portable Adobe Photoshop & ImageReady CS2 is entirely possible! Creating a working NSIS-based launcher is still in development, however, these are the exact steps I have taken to reach the nearest point. To write these steps most accurately, I am starting with neither Adobe Photoshop/ImageReady CS2 or its activation license on the machine…

  • Locate the directory that contains your Adobe Photoshop CS2 setup installation.
  • Install Adobe Photoshop CS2, enter your serial registration, and activate the product.
  • Create a new directory on your computer and copy the following necessary files for Adobe Photoshop CS2 & Adobe ImageReady CS2 to operate:
  • Program FilesAdobePhotoshop CS2 ->

    ACE.dll

    AdobeLM.dll

    Adobelmsvc Installer.dll

    AdobeUpdater.dll (generates error, program runs)

    AdobeXMP.dll

    agldt28l.dll

    AGM.dll

    asneu.dll

    AXE8SharedExpat.dll

    Bib.dll

    BIBUtils.dll

    CoolType.dll

epic_regs.dll (generates error, program runs, goodbye shortcuts)

FileInfo.dll (program runs, error on File>File Info)

    libagluc28.dll

    pdfsettings.dll

    persresen_US.dll

    Photoshop.dll

    Plugin.dll

    PSArt.dll

    PSViews.dll

    Tw10122.dat

    VersionCue.dll

    VersionCueUI.dll

    Program FilesAdobePhotoshop CS2Activation(your language/country)tw12216.dat

    Program FilesAdobePhotoshop CS2Required*.*

Documents & SettingsAll UsersApplication DataAdobe SystemsProduct licensesB2B86000.dat

You may decided to keep certain folders; like for example “Plug-Ins”, but it is not necessary for Photoshop CS2 or ImageReady CS2 to operate, and though some plugins will still appear to be available, they will cause no change to the image if selected. UPDATE: Using UPX v1.95 beta I was able to compress all EXEs and DLLs in the root directory and keep full functionality!

  • Copy the minimum required registry entries by running “regedit”.
  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall{236BB7C4-4419-42FD-0409-1E257A25E34D}]

"EPIC_ORG"="(your company or organisation you registered under)"

"EPIC_SERIAL"="(your serial registration number without dashes)"

    "EPIC_NAME"="(the name you registered under)"

UPDATE: In total, this removes approximately 212 MB of unneeded materials and brings the installation down to approximately 26 MB!!!

At this point you can uninstall Adobe Photoshop/ImageReady CS2 and remove your license file. To run Photoshop or Imageready without installing the application, do the following (it’s obvious):

  • Copy the registry entries (EPIC_ORG, EPIC_SERIAL, EPIC_NAME) back to their appropriate place in your registry.
  • Copy “B2B86000.dat” back to the directory \Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe Systems\Product licenses\
  • Locate the directory you copied your files to and launch either “Photoshop.exe” or “ImageReady.exe”.” (/quote)
  • Now, if you are still reading this post, I welcome you to try the above. However, I WILL warn you. This method will only shrink the program done; you will not be able to work around and throw this onto a USB.

This is the cool part. I looked thru the above instructions and, working around them, I was able to configure the program so I would be able to carry it in my pocket (quite literally, USBs are cool nowadays 😀 ). Now, the problem with this is that you can’t use the core files for some reason. If you do, it will say that msvcp71.dll is missing. If you add that dll, then it will give you an error stating that the license file is unusable and after that, an error about reinstalling the program.

You will need: A USB drive of size 512 mb or higher, adobe photoshop CS2 (actual cd or cracked version), some way to activate CS2 (preferably a Keygen so you don’t have to deal with an online or actual phone activation), and some minor computer skills (aka – know how to activate CS2 if you are using a keygen, how to change the registry or get access) [I will help no skill users in this guide]

First, install and activate your photoshop like above.

Second, find the directory where your photoshop was installed. Unlike above, you don’t want to copy select files, but the whole Adobe Photoshop CS2 folder. It’s approx. 300 mb or under depending on what you’ve put in there. Copy the folder onto your USB drive.

Third, go into the registry and find the photoshop registry information. (to do this, run regedit) [go to the start menu, hit run, type in regedit, hit enter or run] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{236BB7C4-4419-42FD-0409-1E257A25E34D}] You don’t want to copy down the core info, you just want to export the entire thing. (right-click the key in the left panel and select export) Save it somewhere (i prefer the desktop or the USB drive) as photoshop_regdata (actually, name doesnt matter, you can call it anything you want, but i like to know what things are for the future).

Fourth, copy the B2B86000.dat from the directory \Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe Systems\Product licenses\ (this is a hidden folder) [to access this folder, go to the all users folder. it will appear to be a dead end. go to the /tools/ menu at top and select /folder options…/ . go to the /view/ tab. under advanced settings, select show hidden files and folders (it is a radio button)]

Now, we will take all this stuff (make sure it is on the USB first) and move it to a new computer.

Here, run the Registration Entries (photoshop_regdata or the reg entry from step 3). The registry info should be copied into the registry editor. If not, then do this first.

run regedit (using the run option in the start menu). go to the location where the reg entry should be. Of course, it will not exist because you havent “installed” the program onto the pc, but installing the program defeats the purpose eh? Therefore the furthest you will get is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

create a key called {236BB7C4-4419-42FD-0409-1E257A25E34D} . if you want, add the core info from before:

“EPIC_ORG”=”(your company or organisation you registered under)”
“EPIC_SERIAL”=”(your serial registration number without dashes)”
    “EPIC_NAME”=”(the name you registered under)”

THESE ARE STRING VALUES, so be VERY careful, or else you will severely mess things up (and you got this far!).

once this is done, run the photoshop_regdata (the reg entries from before). it should now work and enter the data into the registry editor. (you can check it if you didn’t close the reg editor, or open it again w.e)

Now, it’s time to copy “B2B86000.dat” back to the directory \Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe Systems\Product licenses\ . Funny thing is, there is no such address! once again, you didn’t install CS2, so the folder will not be there. in the application data folder, create an adobe systems folder. inside that, create a product licenses folder. inside there, paste the B2B86000.dat file.

Now, run photoshop.exe inside the Adobe Photoshop CS2 folder on your USB drive. When it finishes loading, it will say some error about the license. Ignore that, hit ok. Then, it may ask you to activate the product. This is where the keygen comes in handy. Use the phone activation method and type in the query code into the keygen. It will be useful to read the guide that told you where to get your cracked copy of photoshop.

Now, run photoshop, and enjoy! 😀

To users of this guide: If you can’t get this to work and/or feel that I have left something out, plz post a comment with your email address and the problem so that I can get back to you. It may have been that I really DID leave something out :D. but of course, I highly doubt it 🙂

    Safari 3 Beta

    Safari

Safari, the default Mac browser, is currently in the process of being updated for the new Mac OS: Leopard. The last update saw the introduction of RSS feeds among other features and improvements. The upcoming version promises even more, claiming to be 1.6 times faster than Firefox and 2 times faster than Explorer.

The public beta does not have all of the promised features, but it does boast improved scrolling on most pages, except those with lots of moving images. It’s also disappointing that the way the browser handles animated gifs hasn’t been improved. Nonetheless, you should try out the beta and form your own opinion, now that Safari is available on both Mac and XP/Vista. Click here for more.

Build Your Own Server – Tutorial Guide

Hey all. I found this great article that teaches you how to setup your own server.

    Here is an excerpt:

“If you’re anything like me (even before I got really involved with bit-tech.net), you’ve got spare parts everywhere. You know what I mean – systems that you have put aside as you’ve upgraded over the years, like Northwood P4s and Athlon XP boards that have gone the way of the dodo. They aren’t your top gaming rig – they don’t even need 200W to run, much less have 200W for the graphics card.

In my goal of helping you find new and useful ways to use that old crap, it dawned on me – everyone I know complains about files on this computer or that computer, or not being able to get the things they need or want while they’re out or away from their home desk. They needed a file server – a REAL file server, with web interface and bit-torrent and the capacity to not tie up your precious screens and keyboards, which are (at least in my house) in less supply than motherboards and hard drives.

It needs to be fast, extensible, flexible, run on old spare parts, and be completely headless after about two hours. It needs to be Linux. And apparently I need to be our resident Linux expert, Ken “Glider” Gypen…

    “GLIIIIDDEEERRR!!!” ”

    Great Website – Disposable Email

I found this today, it is called spaml.

This is how it works according to their website:

    “What is Spaml ?

Spaml is an automatic disposable email solution where you don’t have to click. When you visit this site the above generated email address is automatically saved to your clipboard.

All you have to do is “Paste” in where ever an email address is requested (forms, forums etc) and when you get the email it will show up here instantly in this box.”

How To Transport Songs From Your iPod to Your PC, the EASY way.

Note: I know this trick works for windows OS, not sure about macs

People have been trying to make programs to “hack” the iPod. How so? They’ve been making it reverse compatible. anyway with an ipod you know that u cant put songs from the ipod to itunes via itunes.

but u can do it w/o a program.

The guide to hacking the iPod (sort of hacking anyway):
    1) open up your iPod folder. you should have a few things like a calender, contacts, and notes folder
    2) view all hidden files
tools > folder options > view tab > radio btn to show hidden files
    3) you have some new transparent things. go into iPod_Control folder
    4) go into the music folder, where u should c a bunch of folders. mine are named f00, f01, etc.
in those folders are all your music. however, the file name is “encrypted”. (its random letters too, but u dont need to crack it)

to view the titles of the songs:
    5) at the top, there is a order bar. it has things like name, size and type on it. right-click and a checked menu will appear. select “title”

Now, all your songs are useable by you. just drag them to where ever you wish them to be. best of all, itunes reads the title names, so u dont ever need to change them!

Did you ever wanted to send someone an email attachment, but it was larger than 10 megabytes? Well, no need to worry. Go to yousendit.com, and you can send anyone a file as long as it is less than 100GB’s.

    This is how it works:

    I’d definitely check it out!

Use any usb drive for readyboost on Vista

This nice tutorial at Windows Vista magazine shows you how you can use any usb drive (even the slower ones) in Vista as a ready boot drive. The advantage? The OS will use this extra flash ram as actual RAM for your computer.

Only 4 steps, takes about 5 minutes, and you are good to go!
