[TiT] That’s It Tuesday – Issue 55

Tattoo of Tit Bird

Hi underground visitors! Welcome to the 55th issue of TIT, or That’s It Tuesday! Every Tuesday, I, Versatile1, will give you a rant of whats going on in the blog, whats intended for the future, hope, dreams, etc.

Man, I am ever so tired.  Coming home from a long day of work, then go to class, and then come back to answer a bunch of comments is what I call a long day. :0

Anyway, last week I have added a new post to the V2 blog.  This time I have written about wisestamp.com, a website that features a nifty firefox plugin that a user can use to to insert HTML signatures into your webmail.

If you a new demonoid user, you may have seen me using it while contacting you on your status.  If you had not known, this week is the PDC conference, or Professional Developer’s Conference.  The biggest news of the week?  WINDOWS 7!  Some say it is “Vista 2.0”.  Yes, the development time will be much quicker, as Vista 7 will be built in modules.  If a feature is in Windows 7, it is deemed complete.  No more half-ass features.

Anyway, go to gizmodo.com and check out the latest stuff on Windows 7.  Will I use it someday?  Probably not, considering that Windows XP is still going strong since its creation back in 2001.  Right now I am using the Mini-XP edition, which is very nice.   Imagine a full Windows install occupying less than 500 megs of space on your hard drive, compared to Vista’s 6GB+ requirement.  Now that is sexy.

Demonoid invites are still going strong!  Every day there is almost a new participant asking for a code.  What used to be 10 codes at the beginning of the week is slowly dwindling down to zero.  Now that is success.

Anything else on your mind? Want to be an author?  Let me know, thanks!

Sucker Free Sunday – Issue 41

[The Suckers Have Changed… Again]
The Goal:
  • Have the public post articles, hopefully on a regular basis.
  • Any topic is allowed… but keep it clean. Try to be tech-savvy, but
if that’s not what you’re about, we really don’t care. Just remember,
this isn’t an exclusive blog, it’s for the general public. Keep in mind
that you will be writing for the masses. Do you want younger kids
    reading bad language?
What It Takes To Become an Underground Contributor or Author:
  1. Commitment. Unless you want to write only one or two articles, you
probably want to be a normal blog writer. This means that the day you
choose to write on is the day you must post. We shouldn’t have to chase
you down for a post. You may be called out. (Oh the shame!)
  2. Language. We generally try to avoid copy/paste rips here, even if
we do write our own intros and conclusions. Try to make your piece
engaging and interesting. For example, if you are making a tutorial,
    post some pics.
  3. No excuses. If you fail to come up with an idea, don’t hope that
Voltaire or Versatile1 will post for you. Contact us and we will help
you. We have lots of ideas, we’ve been writing for over a year! If you
can’t reach us, check out Digg, Fark, Reddit, ZeroPaid, and other
social article sites. They generally have lots of new articles which
can create ideas. Ask MusicMasteria why he left the blog (at the
    command of our viewers!)
  4. Hard work. Don’t slack off and post a horrid one-liner. ‘Nuff said. Just be good and post something decent.
Please note that long periods of inactivity
will be noticed, and further discussions related to this activity shall
be conducted in a professional manner off of the blog.Bad behavior related to the blog will result in IP blockage. We will
spam filter you if you decide to vent on the blog via post or comment.

To apply, post your request and desire in the comments of this
Sucker Free Sunday issue, or any issue. As long as the Staff sees the
request, further action will take place. Or, send us an email. We love reading those. Thanks!

Finally, those of you who sign up for PrizeRebel using the links on
this blog, send Voltaire an email if you want traffic to your personal

Sucker Free Sunday – Issue 32

[The Suckers Have Changed]
Bah! Since there was mad turmoil on Issue 21, and after one complaint that the rules were worthless and not going anywhere, I have decided to change it up a bit. This time around, it is going to be shorter, sweeter, and much simpler.
The Goal:
  • To find new writers to take up a certain day of the week (yes, we can have multiple writers a day or overlap) to post dedicated, fresh content.
  • Topics you desire to write on can be anything, but please keep it clean and within the realm of sensibility. We have children, young adults, fathers, mothers, and the elderly visiting this blog. When in doubt, contact Versatile1.
What It Takes To Become an Underground Contributor or Author:
  1. The Underground accepts all forms of communication. You can wish to express yourself via video, writing, pictures, audio, or any combination of the methods mentioned above.
  2. You must be a dependable writer. This means that you are expected to write on the day that you wish to write on. If you know you can’t make it, please contact Versatile1 to make arrangements for article backups.
  3. You must be enthusiastic to write here on the blog. Please see it as an honor to partake in a blog that receives at least 2K views a day.
  4. If you are stuck for ideas, contact Versatile1 for suggestions. Apathy or excuses to not write is not acceptable. For a good example, ask MusicMasteria why he is one of the poorest writers on the blog.
Please note that long periods of inactivity will be noticed, and further discussions related to this activity shall be conducted off-line.

Later this week, I will have a post announcing Diablo 3!  OMG, the gameplay videos and screenshots are giving me a heart attack. Release date?  Late 2009 Blizzard says.  Starcraft 2 is probably going to be released around X-Mas this year.  Far Cry 2 is coming in fall.  OMG, great times to be a gamer.

Blog Recruitment – What the Dillio?

If you may or may not have known, this blog has been around since mid April of 2007. This past summer I have been trying to get more people onto the blog, and efforts have been hit or miss.

Yes, we got a few guys in the beginning, but as time goes on interest dies off. The problem I feel is that the authors see this “Underground Blog” and feel like they can share with their diverse knowledge. So after a few weeks they write and write, and then suddenly writer’s cramp. Or life kicks in and they have higher priorities to deal with rather than write for 5 minutes on a blog that gets over 2K views a day.

As time went on, I have come to the conclusion that people who read this blog either:

  • Enjoy the material but don’t want to contribute.
  • Don’t want to make committments.
  • Have no idea what to write about.
  • Feel as if this whole place is a waste of time.
  • Come and leech the info, maybe leave a comment to say thanks, but effectively become a blog troll or leech. (which is ok :o)
  • Become an author, but then the “novelty” factor wears off and they become inactive.
  • Not passionate enough to become one of the few underground communities and make a difference. Voltaire can explain how well we are doing in the Alexa ranks, but we are rising. I don’t have the statistics on me, but Voltaire will be able to explain. In short, we are constantly rising in ranks, and we are not falling downwards. This is an amazing feat for a blog that writes so much random topics that I’m glad for what I am trying to get out there.
  • The “rules” are too strict, or too loose.
  • No motivation to contribute.

The list goes on and on. I’m sure there is someone reading this right now, and may have their own thoughts as to why people don’t want to become an author, even if it only takes like 10 minutes of their time to write something up. Heck, explore yourself.  If you come here regularly, why don’t you want to contribute? If it is something that I haven’t mentioned already, please mention it in the comments. I’m just curious so I can figure out how to improve this place.

This blog is for the community, not for me. Yes, I can hoard the information and keep it to all myself, but what fun is that if you can’t share the hi-tech love?

Sound off in the comments, you might be recognized!

Sucker Free Sunday – Issue 21

Welcome to the 21st issue of Sucker Free Sunday, where I talk about recruitment policies.  Please refer to issue 1 for the rules on recruitment, but for the lazy, I have recopied the rules below:Here are the rules:1) If selected, you are committed to write on the day you are assigned or chosen.

2) If you happen to miss your day, and Versatile1 covers for you, thats ok but you are given a strike. Three (3) strikes and you are off the team. One (1) strike will be removed every month you did not get a strike. No exceptions to the rule.

3) Topics you desire to write on can be anything, but please keep it clean. We have children, young adults, fathers, mothers, and the elderly visiting this blog.

4) You can of course post on any other day too if you so feel inclined, but make sure you post on your required day, or that is a strike. Make sure your post coincides with your calendar date. If it posts and shows up as the previous day, you posted too early and must delete it and re-post it on the next day.

To apply, post your request and desire in the Sucker Free Sunday issue, any issue. Thank you.
