We are the Change in this Small World

smallworld

Over the past few months, lots of people have come across this blog and said what they needed to say here, which include stories, questions, flames, spam, comments, more questions, sarcastic comments, humorous posts, and thanks.

When this blog started back  in April 2007, I didn’t think much of anything really.  When I finished college and started working, I had more time to really fine tune the blog, and setup some personal goals article wise.  I have hit perhaps 60% of what I wanted to write personally, and then with the addition of Voltaire we were able to increase our viewership even more!

[Blog Update] Welcome to the New Underground Year

The new year has begun, and its time for a quick update from yours truly, Versatile1.  For 2009, I have some ambitious goals.  Don’t get me wrong, 2008 was a stellar year.  We had awesome tutorials for the console modding scene, as well as tutorials related to the Call of Duty Games.

Porn was a hot item, and everyone wants a piece of the action.  How will we top all that in 2009?  I’m not sure yet, to tell you the truth.  I am always looking for new authors, thats a given.

Demonoid is always a hot item, and people almost every single day are asking me for invites.

One of the new things I want to do this year is give our tutorials more of that “Underground Stamp of Approval”.  Therefore , any new tutorials or past tutorials will have a special “Underground signature” that will show:

1) Credibility

2) The tutorial works because the author has lived through it.

Other things I want to make more fun around here are the weekly polls.  On the right hand side, you may notice each week I got interesting questions.  If you look at the results, I think you may be surprised!  Seriously, who knew girls know how to pirate?

Pirate Girls Are Sexy?

Pirate Girls Are Sexy?

If you haven’t noticed, I have created for myself at least a custom avatar that says “Official Underground Author”. ALthough simple, it should let newcomers know who is an author on this blog and who isn’t.  Will the other authors follow my lead?  >_>  Well, that is up to them, right?

One of the major things I stopped doing last year was daily postings.  Although it was nice, I doubt many of you read them from day to day.  I’ve come to realized it is not about the quantity of posts, but about the quality and content of posts.  With that said, less posts, but more substance.

I am going to start up again the STD posts, or some variation of it.  I think we have lots of underground activity that I can get from other forums or from people in general that we can start sharing stuff on.

I hope 2009 will be an exciting year.  Of course, we need more tutorials on playing cracked games on hamachi and cheats becuase people seem to love them!

[TiT] That’s It Tuesday – Issue 59

nestlings-of-ground-tit

I’ve decided to kill Sucker Free Sundays now.  The thread is meeting its age, and seriously I doubt anyone cares who writes on what days anymore.  Oh well, it was a long ass run!

Today I wanted to mention a special link that does not get enough love.  Do you have a PS2, and you want to run games off a USB hard drive?  Well, time over time I get the same question asking why their game does not work.  They can copy to the hard drive, but the loading screen is black and it hangs there?

The reason it does this is because the game is probably not compatible with the USBExtreme or HDALoader program.  I don’t know why that is.  If you have a modded PS2, just go straight to burnt game.  If you have swap magic, go to straight copy.  Why bother with USB hard drive?  Sure, it may save your laser, but the USB 1.1 performance sucks for the FMV sequences, and its good for regular game play. Maybe having a load of games on the hard drive gives you a hard on…. I don’t know 😉

Go to this link below, and check if your game is compatible.  If not, then go a different route.

This Thursday is Thanksgiving, so I’m going to have a nice turkey with the family, mashed potatoes, yams, and cranberry juice.  Yum!  How will you celebrate Thanksgiving this year?  Let us know in the comments!

Sucker Free Sunday – Issue 43

[The Suckers Have Changed… Again]
The Goal:
  • Have the public post articles, hopefully on a regular basis.
  • Any topic is allowed… but keep it clean. Try to be tech-savvy, but
if that’s not what you’re about, we really don’t care. Just remember,
this isn’t an exclusive blog, it’s for the general public. Keep in mind
that you will be writing for the masses. Do you want younger kids
    reading bad language?
What It Takes To Become an Underground Contributor or Author:
  1. Commitment. Unless you want to write only one or two articles, you
probably want to be a normal blog writer. This means that the day you
choose to write on is the day you must post. We shouldn’t have to chase
you down for a post. You may be called out. (Oh the shame!)
  2. Language. We generally try to avoid copy/paste rips here, even if
we do write our own intros and conclusions. Try to make your piece
engaging and interesting. For example, if you are making a tutorial,
    post some pics.
  3. No excuses. If you fail to come up with an idea, don’t hope that
Voltaire or Versatile1 will post for you. Contact us and we will help
you. We have lots of ideas, we’ve been writing for over a year! If you
can’t reach us, check out Digg, Fark, Reddit, ZeroPaid, and other
social article sites. They generally have lots of new articles which
can create ideas. Ask MusicMasteria why he left the blog (at the
    command of our viewers!)
  4. Hard work. Don’t slack off and post a horrid one-liner. ‘Nuff said. Just be good and post something decent.
Please note that long periods of inactivity
will be noticed, and further discussions related to this activity shall
be conducted in a professional manner off of the blog.Bad behavior related to the blog will result in IP blockage. We will

[TiT] That’s It Tuesday – Issue 54

Tattoo of Tit Bird

Hi underground visitors! Welcome to the 54th issue of TIT, or That’s It Tuesday! Every Tuesday, I, Versatile1, will give you a rant of whats going on in the blog, whats intended for the future, hope, dreams, etc.

I think I am having withdrawal from the absence of “daily postings”.  Is this normal? ;0  It is different to not making sure we are posting every single day.  Frankly, I was being burnt out, and now with staff being very ridiculously busy with non-V1 stuff, I’m the sole bread producer here now. :0  It’s OK I suppose.  I enjoy coming here after work and see what new comments awaits me.  Lol.

As expected, the Demonoid list never ever dies.  It seems that every few days that a newcomer comes along and asks for an invite, which is perfectly fine.  Now what really ticks me off is that there have been times when people come asking for an invite, then I send them an initial e-mail confirming if they need an invite.

Guess what?  They never respond to that first e-mail.  Maybe my e-mail got into their spam box.  Oh well, I say.  If I’m not important enough to be looked after in the spam box, then perhaps you don’t deserve the demonoid code, right?

What else is new?  Not much I suppose.  Content is still brewing for V2, and it takes awhile to really think of a good tutorial, and lay it out.  I hope to have the next tutorial out this weekend, but we shall see.

Eventually, V2 will start growing, and Voltaire will optimize the blog for additional search engine traffic.  Until that day comes, you will have to visit the V2 blog manually at http://tug.cjb.net.

This is all I have for now.  Red Alert 3 is coming, so is Deadspace for PC.  Sweet!  Far Cry 2 will be here shortly, as well as World at War.  It is a great time to be a gamer now. 😉

[TiT] That’s It Tuesday – Issue 52

Tattoo of Tit Bird

Hi underground visitors! Welcome to the 52nd issue of TIT, or That’s It Tuesday! Every Tuesday, I, Versatile1, will give you a rant of whats going on in the blog, whats intended for the future, hope, dreams, etc.

As I write this post, I am watching the presidential debate, which is very interestesting.  Anyway, I know V2 is lacking content.  My aim is to have something this week ready for it.

What will it be?  Don’t know yet. ;p  I know that othe unnamed authors are working on tentative drafts, so when those are released, it will be a good day. ;0

Please note that there is a form on V2 where users can submit their tutorial idea.  I advise that you do the same, rather than rely on us to figure out what is appropriate for you.  Leave a thought if you have something to say.  Thanks!

Update on Days of the Week

[Update 10-6-08] The rules have just changed after talking to Voltaire.  The revised method now is every week, there will be a minimal of 3 posts overall for that week.  There can be more posts, author willing.  With that said, daily postings are not guaranteed anymore, and if anything, should be a breather for both author and audience.

With the extra time, more focus can be shifted onto V2 blog. 🙂

I was talking to Voltaire last week on the new goal for the V1 blog, and I really really wanted to forgoe daily postings.  It was my dream to give it up, and just focus on V2.  I know that postings on V1 will continue, but I did not want to do it daily (90% of the time it is me).

After talking to Voltaire about this, and the unfair workload, we have decided to come to a compromise.  I will currently cover Monday through Thursday, and Voltaire will cover Friday through Sunday.  If another author decides to write, great.  No writing from either myself or Voltaire.

Another thing is if I were to write on V2 for that specific day, then I don’t have to write on V1 that same day. Thus, don’t be alarmed if you do not see a daily post from me. Every TiT update I will write a quick update if something was written on V2.  Otherwise, I expect due diligence on the other blog. ;0

Also, a new thing I am doing now is I am not going to cover for other authors anymore.  If they know and are expected to write on a certain day, and they don’t, well that is their problem.  I push myself internally, and I write when I need to write.  If others can’t write on their specific day, then what does that say about internal drive?  Excuses happen, yes, but if your “drive > excuses”, then your drive should win.  This applies vice versa.  If I fail to write on a particular day, then don’t cover for me.  I’ll take the hit and drive myself even harder the next day.

In the future, I’m going to write another post on ideas revolving around dedication, and what it means to be dedicated in what you love.  It will be interesting post, but I’ll save that for a rainy day.

Note: Authors (well admins) have the power to make an article and publish it at a previous date in the past.  Although this works and establishes the notion that someone actually posted that particular day, I am not going to do it anymore for any of my posts.  If the other authors want to do it to conceal their activity, fine but I will know and so will themselves.  “This blog deserves a better classic author.  And I intend to give it to them.  ” Sound familiar? 🙂  Because this is what I am aiming to do.

Post a comment if you think this is a good direction to go.

[TiT] That’s It Tuesday – Issue 51

Tattoo of Tit Bird

Hi underground visitors! Welcome to the 51st issue of TIT, or That’s It Tuesday! Every Tuesday, I, Versatile1, will give you a rant of whats going on in the blog, whats intended for the future, hope, dreams, etc.

Can you frickin believe that I have been writing update posts 51 weeks in a row? WTF!  Ok, so the new blog is up, otherwise known as V2.  Find it at http://www.tug.cjb.net.
Why “tug”?  It is simple, short, and stands for “The Underground”.  Content on V2 is pretty close to nil, but trust me, we got some articles brewing in the background.  It will just take a while is all.  Tomorrow and the rest of the week I will not be writing an article, unless something catches my mind and I just have to write about it. ;0
This is all I have for you guys right now.  My first article on V2 will be a surprise, and I am thinking of another video tutorial (not PS2 related), which will definitely have your ears perked once you hear what I’m talking about next.  It really is mischevious.  Muahah.

The Next Step for V1?

The Next Step

The Next Step

As I have mentioned yesterday, sometime tomorrow the unveiling of V2 will happen.  There won’t be much content, but over time it will grow.  With that said, V2 will have a different feel to it.  As we start writing things that are more in lined with our core roots, what will be left of V1?

Do we stop writing new posts on V1, but continue to provide support on previous posts?  Do we write posts on V1 that don’t match the theme of V2?  Do we continue with V1 daily postings, in addition to the V2 posts?  (I don’t want to do that, lol).  As the main author, I am seriously getting burnt up.  Sure, I have a staff, but the output is less than the input.  I realize everyone is busy, but I have met my ultimate goal of daily postings for the last few months.   Now it is time to move on.

I am very interested in what the community thinks as to how we should proceed with V1.  Update it semi weekly? Leave it alone?  Anything else?  Let me know in the comments!
