There’s Nothing Like The First

Have you ever read a book or watched a movie that had a truly deep effect on you? I’m sure everyone has, and I’m also sure that everyone says the same thing to themselves after reading or viewing it: “I wish I could be experiencing this for the first time again.”

We, as people, feel attached to feelings and experiences over anything else. You watch your favorite movie, and the one thing you’d want more than anything is to watch it again for the first time. It’s clearly logical that you can only watch something once for the first time. It’s a sad truth.

My favorite movie is Fight Club, and every single time I watch it, I wish I could be watching it for the first time. If you’ve ever repeated something that you’ve enjoyed, you desperately wish that you were experiencing it from the very beginning. And although there is no possible way to make it like the primaries and remembering it, there are some actions to take so that what you’ve done lasts a lifetime.

Remembrance. Don’t forget what it felt like by making some form of personal goals, beliefs, or life lessons that you’ve set or gained from your specific encounter. With Fight Club, for example, there are many quotes and dogmas that I take into account when I go about my daily routines, my normal life. Let what you have gained from your experience change you for better or for worse, because you might regret it if you don’t.

Let’s not forget about basic life experiences, though. Often times, we observe something that is nature at its most random, and will most likely never occur again before your eyes or ears. It can be anything from a god coming down from the heavens and talking to you, or something as simple as an eagle diving down and snatching a squirrel in your presence.

Although I highly doubt anyone has seen a god, that is of minimal importance. What is relevant is whether the observer truly believes that he was lying in his god’s presence and what sort of impact it had on him. From this, he may gain certain principles and opinions that will most likely shape the rest of his life according to what had happened to him; same goes for the smaller stuff. Just as well with the eagle snatching the squirrel, one may expand this minimal observation and press certain ideologies to his life. He might say, “The world might be more vicious than I thought;” In correlation, it might confirm certain speculations involving previous encounters: “The world is vicious, just like I guessed before.”

Every little thing that one does can have the biggest impact on him. It’s all about perception—the way one sees things. Each thing can simply be defined by how it appears or what it obviously means, or that same thing can have a deep philosophical meaning to which one can learn a life lesson from. It’s a big world, even in its tiniest specs.

Tangent Conversations – Annoying!!!!

Foreword:  This is by far my favorite post of 2009 so far.  It will give you insight into how I work and engage myself with others online.  If you see yourself being pestered by me, or you see me irritated, it is because you are trying to engage yourself into a tangent conversation that I want no part of.  Remember that. ~ Versatile

This post will be easy for me to write, compared to the various tutorials I like to put up on this blog from time to time.  So what is on my mind this time?  Being a blog author, and an Internet enthusiast, as well as a person who loves to game and chat online, I meet a lot of interesting people online.  These people come from all walks of the Earth, whether it is a random occurence from hamachi, from this blog, e-mail, forums, Garena, and other social type networks.

I may not know the thousands of people that visit this site, but I”m sure they recognize who I am.  Are you one of these people?  You must be if you are reading this post. :0

Let’s hear the juicy rant!

Our Lives, Our Times. [Issue 1]

I have decided to write a series of essay type papers reflecting my thoughts on life. Do not expect a daily, weekly, etc. issue, because these will be purely random. ~Voltaire

A swim coach I trained under for a day told me “What would you try, if you knew you could not fail?” This has got me thinking. Why not ever try something? Must be due to failure no? Then, I thought, why do we have presidents like George DUYBA Bush? Certainly, he has done nothing good in life. That, of course, to me, means FAILURE. Stamped RIGHT on the forehead. But he’s tried EVERYTHING. Even cocaine! And yes, he did some drunk driving as well.

But still, politics is only one thing. Life consists of many things, like sports, studies, schooling (like beating people), and many others. I understand that to be balanced, you need a majority of these things. But then, why are there some people who are very successful in general? Why doesn’t everyone try to everything?

Tests anyone? To be tested and to succeed, that is what we hope for. But is that victory? Maybe. But I have noticed that its the tests that impede progress. In our times, our world, those who strive seem to never fail. Rather, they win too many times that their losses don’t really matter. Contrary, there are those who get that one large victory, after many losses. Little kids have seen lottery winners and they ask, Mom why didn’t you do it? You would have won!

Such is life. The brutally honest answer would kill the child. In an open sense of mind, the true victor can never be those who give their 100%. No. The real winner is obviously the person who defeats the rest. And with our example of the lottery, who is the real winner? Is it the person who finally won the jackpot? Or the sponsor, who continually gains enough that a million dollar payout is like a penny donation?

Bah. and it’s the day after christmas. What a merry spirit eh? So, as my essay on failures and success in our life and times comes to an end, I want all you people reading this to have some holiday cheer and be thankful for all the positive things in life.

Hey, it’s my first time writing something touching here. It might have been hard to follow. Comments are welcome and much needed/appreciated! ~Voltaire

The History of Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is a traditional North American holiday to give thanks, traditionally to God, for the things that one has at the conclusion of the harvest season. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States and on the second Monday of October in Canada.

They say that the first Thanksgiving was celebrated by the Pilgrims and the Native Americans up in Plymouth, MA. That, for the most part, seems to be true. But what foods did they eat? Historians aren’t completely certain, but we know that the pilgrims weren’t piling up on pumpkin pie or grave-ing their mashed potatoes. There was certain more meat than vegies, especially since the Pilgrims had access to lobster and seal.

Most people think that Thanksgiving was a yearly celebration. The fact of the matter is that the feast was a one time, three day long thing, mainly due to the fact that it was a harvest festival. The feast celebrated the Pilgrims first good harvest and the help of the natives. They were giving thanks that they survived the year and were ready for the winter. The feast was most likely earlier than our current Thanksgiving. The early settlers of Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts were particularly grateful to Squanto, the Native American and former British slave who taught them how to both catch eel and grow corn and also served as their native interpreter. Without Squanto’s assistance, the settlers might not have survived in the New World.

However, there have been other records of Thanksgiving, or Harvest Festivals, before the Pilgrims. One is the 1619 Thanksgiving by the Berkeley Hundred in VA. (More info)

Halo Wars

Alright, this is apparently the next new game from Ensemble Studios.

It looks amazing, let me tell you.

Here is a video:

Halo Wars is a real-time action strategy game for the Xbox 360 that allows the player to control large armies and to shrewdly direct them in realistic warfare. Set early in the iconic war between the Covenant and UNSC – made famous by the Halo FPS games – Halo Wars provides a new angle on the war while bringing new heroes to the battle.

The images below are renders of the units or buildings in-game. Mouse-over each image to see the original concept art. In the weeks and months ahead we will be updating the features page with more information and imagery.
